This book is a disappointment for those looking for a biblically faithful "theology" for the city. Bakke takes significant liberties with the text of Scripture under the guise of "theological reflection." Conn & Ortiz wrote: "Jumping too quickly from the cities of the twentieth century to the urban vocabulary of the Old Testament can be hazardous to one's hermeneutical health." Sadly, Bakke does not heed this warning. His acceptance of many critical speculations about Scripture is also disappointing. Read Conn & Ortiz's "Urban Ministry" or Greenway/Monsma's "Cities" instead.
