HAVING been frequently asked to recommend a small volume on the safety, in Christ their Head, of all true believers, and being unable to name one that appeared suitable, several friends suggested the propriety of my reprinting, in a cheap form, the articles in my "Biblical and Theological Gleanings that refer to this doctrine. After giving the matter some thought, I have complied, in part, with the suggestion named, by rewriting, in an altered form,-sometimes considerably abridging, and at other times enlarging, as seemed desirable, the original remarks in the above work on the doctrine named, and have added observations on more than an equal number of texts not therein noticed, with the view of including many other passages of Scripture that are generally quoted for or against the inviolable security of all who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ; a doctrine that tens of thousands, equally with myself, regard as one of the most consolatory in the Divine volume. I have not thought it necessary to include every text that establishes the opinion defended, while it has been my aim not to omit any that are usually adduced in favor of the contrary view.
