THE

POETICAL WORKS

MATTHEW PRIOR.

IN THREE VOLUMES.

WITH THE LIFE OF THE AUTHOR.

Here's no rude ore; no nts of heat and cold;
Here all is nature, yet all's beaten gold;
No forc'd myfterious foarings in the clouds,
No mud, no foam, no noise, in your deep floods,
With fuch true fpirit your great numbers rung
As lightning bold, but equal as the fun:
Gentle tho' ftrong; and high, yet ftill in fight;
Rapid, yet pure; and eafy as the light.

VERSES TO PRIOR.

[blocks in formation]

AT THE Apollo Press, BY THE MARTINE,
Azne 1784.
