14 with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with 15 pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it 16 fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof: with 17 lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy

the same word, are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment, and perdition of ungodly men. 2 Pet. iii. 6, 7. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat; the earth also, and the works that are therein, shall be burnt up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and "hasting unto the coming" (or "hasting the coming") of the day of God, wherein the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. 2 Pet. iii. 10. 12.

14 Make thee, &c.] For as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matt. xxiv. 38, 39. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage until the day that Noe entered into the

ark.

Luke xvii. 27. By which (spirit) also he (Christ) went and preached unto the spirits in prison; when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noe while the ark was a preparing. 1 Pet. iii. 20.

Pitch it.] And when she (his mother) could no longer hide him (Moses), she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein. Exod. ii. 3.

15 Cubits, &c.] Fifteen cubits upwards did the waters prevail. Gen. vii. 20. Nine cubits was the length thereof (of Og's bedstead), and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man. Deut. iii. 11.

16 A window, &c.] At the end of forty days, Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. Gen. viii. 6. And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal, Saul's daughter, looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart. 2 Sam. vi. 16. And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it, and she painted her face, and tried her head, and looked out at a window. 2 Kings ix. 30.

The door, &c.] And they that went in (to

the ark) went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him (Noah), and the Lord shut him in. Gen. vii. 16. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are ; then shall ye begin to say, &c. Luke xiii. 25, 26.

With lower, &c.] (And he, the man in Ezekiel's vision, measured) the door posts, and the narrow windows, and the galleries (of the temple) round about on their three stories. Ezek. xli. 16. Over against the twenty cubits which were for the inner court, was gallery against gallery in three stories. Ezek. xlii. 3.

17 Behold I, &c.] See verse 13, &c. For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I "destroy" (or "blot out") from off the face of the earth. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth; and every living substance was destroyed which was the face of the ground; and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. Gen. vii. 4. 21. 23. And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you. Gen. ix. 9. And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians (said God). Exod. xiv. 17. I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. Lev. xxvi. 28. See now, that I, even I, am he, and there is no God with me. Deut. xxxii. 39. The Lord sitteth upon the flood. Ps. xxix. 10. I, even I, am he that comforteth you. Isa. li. 12. Behold I, even I, am against "thee" ("Jerusalem") and will execute judgments in the midst of thee, in the sight of the nations. Ezek. v. 8. I, even I, will bring a sword upon "you" (the mountains and the hills, &c. of Israel), and I will destroy your high places. Ezek. vi. 3. Behold I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. Ezek. xxxiv. 11. Behold I, even I, will judge between the fat cattle and the lean cattle. Ezek. xxxiv. 20. I, even I, will tear (as a young lion) and go away. Hos. v. 14. (God) spared not the old world, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly. 2 Pet. ii. 5.

Bring a flood, &c.] And the flood was forty

all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I 18 establish my covenant: and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. And of every 19 living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every 20 creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall

days upon the earth; all in whose nostrils was "the breath of life," (or "the breath of the spirit of life"), died. Gen. vii. 17. 22. (The wicked) were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood. Job xxii. 16. The Lord sitteth upon the flood. Ps. xxix. 10. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves; the Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea than the mighty waves of the sea. Ps. xcii.. 3, 4. A fruitful land (turneth he) into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. Ps. cvii. 34. For this is as the waters of Noah unto me. Isa. liv. 9. It is he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth. Amos. ix. 6. And (they in the days of Noe) knew not until the flood came, and took them all away. Matt. xxiv. 39. The flood came, and destroyed them all. Luke xvii. 27.

The breath of life, &c.] See chap. ii. 7. And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. Gen. vii. 15.

Shall die, &c.] See verse 7; Ps. cvii. 34. abore. As by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, "for that all have sinned" (or "in whom all have sinned"). As by one man's disobedience many were made sinners; so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life, by Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom. v. 12. 19. 21. The wages of sin is death. Rom. vi. 23. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same, in hope, because the creature also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption, into the glorious liberty of the children of God; for we know that "the whole creation" (or "every creature") groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. Rom. viii. 20, 21, 22.

18 Establish my covenant, &c.] I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more, by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. Gen. ix. 11. Behold my covenant is with thee, and thou (Abram) shalt be a father of many nations; VOL. I.

I will establish my covenant between me and thee, and thy seed after thee, in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee: my covenant will I establish with Isaac, &c. Gen. xvii. 4. 7. 21.

Come into the ark, &c.] And the Lord said unto Noah, come thou and all thy house into the ark; and Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into he ark, because of the waters of the flood; in the self-same day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark. Gen. vii. 1. 7. 13. Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee, hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast, for behold the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth. Isa. xxvi. 20, 21; see Heb. xi. 7; 1 Pet. iii. 20. with Pet. ii. 2. 5. at verse 13.

19 Two of every sort, &c.] Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female; and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female; of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; of clean beasts and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, there went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female; and they that went in, went in male and female, as God had commanded him. Gen. vii. 2, 3. 8. 16. Bring forth every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. Gen. viii. 17. O Lord, thou preservest man and beast. Ps. xxxvi. 6.

20 After their kind, &c.] See chap. i. 20. 24. And (Peter) saw heaven opened and a certain vessel descending unto him, wherein were all manner of four-footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. Acts x. 11, 12.

Two of every sort, &c.] See chap. i. 28; ii. 19; vii. 8. 16. Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle, and the crane, and the swallow, observe the time of their coming, but my people know not the judgment of the Lord. Jer. viii. 7. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life, John v. 40.

And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall 22 be for food for thee, and for them. Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

CHAPTER VII.

1 AND the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark: for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

21 All food that is eaten, &c.] See chap. i. 29, 30. Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat. Job xxxviii. 41. Surely the mountains bring "him" ("Behemoth") forth food. Job xl. 20. O Lord, thou preservest man and beast. Ps. xxxvi. 6. "These" ("creatures") wait all upon thee, that thou mayest give them their meat in due season; that thou givest them they gather; thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. Ps. civ. 27, 28. "Who" (the Lord) giveth food to all flesh, for his mercy endureth for ever. Ps. cxxxvi. 25. Thou openest thine hand and satisfieth the desire of every living thing. Ps. cxlv. 16. He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry. Ps. cxlvii.

Behold the fowls of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Matt. vi. 26.

22 According to all, &c.] And Noah did according unto all that the Lord commanded him. Gen. vii. 5. 9. 16. And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin, in the self-same day, as God had said unto him. Gen. xvii. 23. "Thus" did Moses ("in rearing the tabernacle") according to all that the Lord commanded him, so did he. Exod. xl. 16. 19. 21. 23, &c. What thing soever I command you, observe to do; thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. Deut. xii. 32. Every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand; whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man which built his house upon a rock. Matt. vii. 26. 24. His (Jesus') mother saith unto the servant (at the marriage in Cana of Galilee), whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. John ii. 5. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. John XV. 14. By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed, and he went out not knowing whither he went. Heb. xi. 8.

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous, for whatsoever is born

of God, overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 John v. 3, 4.

CHAP. VII.-1 Come thou, &c.] See verse 7. 13. He shall deliver thee in six troubles; yea, in seven, there shall no evil touch thee, and thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shall not "sin" (or "ran into sin"). Job v. 19. 24. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Ps. xci. 1. In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence, and his children shall have a place of refuge. Prov. xiv. 26. The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runneth into it, and "is safe" (or "is set aloft"). Prov. xviii. 10. Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers; hide thyself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast; for, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity. Isa. xxvi. 20, 21. through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh, and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof; come not near any man upon whom is the mark. Ezek. ix. 4. 8. Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment, seek righteousness, seek meekness; it may be, ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger. Zeph. ii. 3. But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be; and (they) knew not until the flood came and took them all away, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Matt. xxiv. 37. 39. As it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. Luke xvii. 26. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts ii. 39. See Heb. xi. 7; 1 Pet. iii. 20. and 2 Pet. ii. 5. above, verse 13, 14, &c.

Thee have I seen, &c.] See chap. vi. 9. He (the Lord) keepeth back his (man's) soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword; he is chastened also with pain upon his bed. Job xxxiii. 18, 19. Blessings are upon the head of the just; the memory of the just is

blessed, but the name of the wicked shall rot; he that walketh uprightly, walketh surely. Prov. x. 6, 7. 9. Righteousness delivereth from death; the righteous is delivered out of trouble. Prov. xi. 4. 8. Say ye to the righteous that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings; woe unto the wicked, it shall be ill with him, for the reward of his hands shall be "given him" (or “done to him"). Isa. iii. 10, 11. (Do all things without murmurings and disputings) that ye may be blameless and "harmless" (or "sincere"), the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom "ye shine as lights" (or "shine ye as lights") in the world; holding forth the word of life, that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. Philip. ii. 15, 16. The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished. 2 Pet. ii. 9.

2 Clean beast, &c.] See verse 8; chap. vi. 19. 21. And Noah builded an altar unto the Lord, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. Gen. viii. 20. These are the beasts which ye shall eat, among all the beasts that are on the earth, whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is cloven-footed, and cheweth the cud; whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. Lev. xi. 2, 3. 9. Ye shall not eat of any thing that dieth of itself. Deut. xiv. 21. What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common (saith the voice of God to Peter). Acts x. 15.

Not clean, &c.] (See) that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean. Lev. x. 10. And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean. Ezek. xliv. 23.

4 Yet seven days, &c.] See verse 10; chap. ii. 5; vi. 3. And he stayed yet other seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark, &c. Gen. viii. 10. 12. Fulfil her (Leah's) week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou (Jacob) shalt serve with me (Laban) yet seven other years, and Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week; and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

Job

Gen. xxix. 27, 28. He (God) looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven, to make the weight for the winds, and he weigheth the waters by measure. xxviii. 24, 25. For he maketh small the drops of water; they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof; with clouds he covereth the light, and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt. Job xxxvi. 27. 32. Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud. He scattereth his bright cloud, and it is turned round about by his counsels, that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth. Job xxxvii. 11, 12. And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city; one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not, withered. Amos iv. 7.

Forty days, &c.] And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and the flood was forty days upon the earth. Gen. vii. 12. 17.

And every living substance, &c.] And all flesh died that moved upon the earth; and every living substance was destroyed, which was upon the face of the ground. Gen. vii. 21 28. See chap. vi. 17.

Destroy, &c.] See verses 21. 23. chap. vi. 7. 13. 17. Yet now if thou wilt forgive their sin (said Moses unto the Lord), and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book, which thou hast written. And the Lord said unto Moses, whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book. Exod. xxxii. 32, 33. Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? Which were cut down out of time. Job xxii. 15, 16. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. Ps. lxix. 28. He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life. Rev. iii. 5. 5 All that the Lord, &c.] See chap. vi. 22. Thus was all the work of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation finished, and the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord God commanded Moses, so did they. Exod. xxxix. 32, &c. Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments (said David). Ps. cxix. 6. And Jesus answering said unto "him" (" John the Baptist") suffer it to be so now, for thus it

six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the carth. 7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and 9 of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, There went in two

and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God 10 had commanded Noah. And it came to pass after seven days, 11 that the waters of the flood were upon the earth. In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great

And being found in fashion as a man, he (Jesus) humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Phil. ii. 8. Though he were a son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered. Heb. v. 8.

6 Six hundred, &c.] See Gen. v. 32. And it came to pass, in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth. Gen. viii. 13.

7 And Noah went in, &c.] See verse 1. 13. 15. chap. vi. 18. A prudent man foresceth the evil, and hideth himself. Prov. xxii. 3. For as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark. Matt. xxiv. 38. and Luke xvii. 27. We have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us. Heb. vi. 18. Noe prepared an ark to the saving of his house. Ileb. xi. 7. When once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of Noe, while the ark was a preparing. 1 Pet. iii. 20. (God) saved Noe, the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness. 2 Pet. ii. 5.

9 Went in two and two, &c.] And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh. Gen. vii. 16. See Gen. ii. 19. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion, and the fatling, together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together. Isa. xi. 6, 7. The wolf and the lamb shall feed together. Isa. Ixv. 25. Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle, and the crane, and the swallow, observe the time of their coming. Jer. viii. 7. "Wherein " ("in the sheet let down from heaven to Peter") were all manner of four-footed beasts of the

earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. Acts x. 12. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female, for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Gal, iii. 28. Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free, but Christ is all, and in all. Col. iii. 11.

10 Waters of the flood, &c.] See verses 4. 17. 20. chap. vi. 17. Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden, whose foundation was overflown with a flood? Job xxii. 16.

11 All the fountains, &c.] See chap. i. 7. vi. 17. The fountains also of the deep, and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained. Gen. viii, 2. The flood breaketh out from the inhabitants, even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up; they are gone away from men. Job xxviii. 4. Who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth as if it had issued out of the womb, and said, hitherto shalt thou come, but no further, and here shall thy proud waves be stayed? Job xxxviii. 8. 11. He gathereth the waters of the sea together. He (the Lord) layeth up the depth in storehouses. Ps. xxxiii. 7. Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood. Ps. lxxiv. 15. Before the mountains were settled, was I (wisdom) brought forth. When he (the Lord) established the clouds above; when he strengthened the fountains of the deep; when he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment. Prov. viii. 28, 29. The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly. Isa. xxiv. 19. Fear ye not me? saith the Lord; will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass, and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it. Jer. v. 22. When he (the Lord) uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings with rain. Jer. li. 16. When I shall bring up the deep upon "thee" (" Jerusalem"), and great waters
