Biographia Literaria, Or, Biographical Sketches of My Literary Life and Opinions
Princeton University Press, 1984 - 856 עמודים
James Engell and W. Jackson Bate offer the first completely annotated edition of this highly allusive work, now available in a one-volume paperback. Dictating the book to a friend who was trying to help him overcome his opium addiction, Coleridge combined in it his belief in philosophy as the foundation of criticism and the empirical sense of style he shared with the other English poet-critics. The first section of the editors' introduction discusses the problem of the book's chronology and order of composition and the circumstances in which it was written. The second section discusses the intellectual content of the "Biographia."
