out, and then immediately going in
and standing with another Ángel at the
Place where the Body of Jefus had
lain. At the Appearance of whom,
the Women were greatly affrighted.

6. But the Angel faid unto them;
Be not afraid: I know, ye come to
feek for the Body of Jefus, who was
crucified: He is not here, dead, as ye
expect; but is rifen again, and alive:
Behold the Place where he lay.

7. And go, tell Peter and the reft of his Difciples, that he is rifen from the Dead; and that he will appear to them + Ch. xiv. in Galilee, as he foretold them before his Death.

28.

8. At this News, the Women partly
affrighted, and partly furprized with
great Joy and Wonder, turned back
immediately from the Sepulchre, and
ran in great hafte to tell the Difciples,
without fpeaking a Word to any Man
whom they met by the Way.

9. And thus the Refurrection of
Chrift was firft declared by a Vifion of
Angels. But as the Women were
going to tell this News to the Difci-
ples, Jefus himself appeared to them,
and fpake familiarly to Mary Magda-
lene, who had been a conftant Follower
of him in his Life-time, and on whom
he had worked
a great Miracle of
Healing. And this was the first time
of his Appearing after his Refurrec-
tion.

faw a young man fitting on the right fide, clothed in a long white garment; and

they were affrighted.

6 And he faith unto them, Be not affrighted: ye feek which was crucified : Jefus of Nazareth, he is rifen, he is

not here: behold the

place where they laid him.

7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter, that into Galilee: there he goeth before you fhall ye fee him, as he said unto you.

8 And they went out quickly, and fled from the fepulchre; for they trembled, and

were amazed: neither faid they any thing to any man ; for they were afraid.

9 Now when Jefus was risen early, the firft day of the week, he appeared firft to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had caft feven devils.

*This Circumftance is mentioned by St. Matthew, ch. xxviii. 2. But contracted by St. Luke, ch. xxiv. 4. and by St. John, ch. XX. 11, and 12. See alfo the Note on Luke xxiv. 4.

10. Now at the firft Sight of him, Mary knew him not. But when Jo. xx. by his Difcourfe he had made himself 14. known to her; and confirmed, by an Ocular Demonftration, what the Angel had before told her; fhe went and affured his Difciples, who were difconfolate and lamenting at his Death, that he was certainly risen again, and alive.

II. But they, notwithstanding this
double Teftimony, both of the Angels
and of his own Appearing; yet doubt-
ed, and could hardly believe it.

12. Afterward, Jefus appeared again,
in the Form and Habit of a Stranger,
to Two of his Difciples as they were
walking into the Country.
And when
he had talked with them a good while,
he at laft made himself plainly known
to them.

13. And these told the reft of the
Difciples, how Jefus had appeared to
Them alfo; and yet neither by this fur-
ther Evidence, would they be perfectly
convinced.

14. Again, after this, Jefus fhewed himfelf to all the Eleven Apoftles together, as they were fitting at Meat. And he reproved them for their Dulnefs, in not remembring the Promife which he had in his Life-time so often made to them of Rifing again; and for their Unbelief, in not crediting those who had already feen him after his Refurrection.

15. And thus, during all the Time between his Refurrection and Afcenfion, he continued appearing to his Difciples, confirming their Faith, and inftructing them in the Nature of the Gospel, and the Means of Propagating it. And he faid: Go ye into all

Parts

Parts of the World, and Preach the
Gospel to all Mankind.

16. He that embraces my Religion, and by Baptifm enters into an Obligation to obey it, and lives accordingly; fhall be faved. But he that rejects the

indued with fuch great and extraordi-
nary Gifts of the Holy Ghoft, as fhall

and for the Establishment of the
Truth.

19. And now, when Jefus had given these and many other the like Inftructions and Promifes to his Difciples for Forty Days together, he led them out into the Mount of Olives, and afcended vifibly into Heaven in their Sight, and fat down at the Right Hand of God the Father, having all Power in Heaven and Earth committed unto him for the good of his Church.

20. After which, the Difciples, being filled with the Holy Ghoft, travelled from Jerufalem into all Parts of the World, preaching the Gofpel every where with wonderful Success, and confirming their Doctrine with undeniable Proofs.
