COLLECTOR OF HIS MAJESTY'S CUSTOMS, &c. &c. &c. YOUR abilities, experience, and knowledge in the Revenue Laws, have induced us to take the liberty of dedicating to you the Fourth Edition of our Publication; assuring ourselves, that should the Work merit your approbation, you will extend to it your patronage and support. PREFACE. THE materials for the present Work were collected and arranged for the press several months ago, but it was thought advisable to defer the immediate publication, that the Compilers might thereby be enabled to include the latest public Orders in any way affecting either the duties imposed, or the construction of the several clauses in the Acts passed during the late session of Parliament. The delay has been so far favorable, as to have given the Compilers an opportunity of inserting in the body of the work all Orders of a public nature up to the present date, and many of them it is presumed will be found of considerable mercantile importance. The Authors cannot permit the Fourth Edition of their Work to appear before the public without, gratefully acknowledging the very favorable reception and extensive sale of those which have preceded it. And they can with confidence assure their numerous Friends and Purchasers, that the greatest care has been taken to complete the present Compilation free from inaccuracies, and to render it in every respect worthy their countenance and recommendation.
