JOHN XVII.

came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst 9 send me. I pray for them; I pray not for the world, but for 10 them which thou hast given me, for they are thine; and all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thine own name, which thou hast given me; that they may 12 be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name; those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost but the son of perdition, that 13 the scripture might be fulfilled. And now come I to thee, and these things I speak in the world, that they might have 14 my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word;

and the world hath hated them, because they are not 15 of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not, that thou shouldest take them out of the world, 16 but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 17 are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 18 tify them through thy truth; thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them 19 into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall 21 believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent 22 me. And the glory which thou gavest me, I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one; 23 (I in them, and thou in me ;) that they may be made perfect

Father, I will that they also whom thou hast given me be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory which thou hast given for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee; but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent 26 me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it; that the love wherewith thou hast loved me, may be in them, and I in them.

And he went a 35 little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying; O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from 36 me; nevertheless, not as I 40 will, but as thou wilt. Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the 38 42 flesh is weak. And he said; Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me. Nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt. And he cometh and findeth them sleeping; and saith unto Peter; Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation; the spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. And when he returned, he found them asleep again; for their eyes were heavy, neither wist they what to answer him. And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them; Are ye sleeping on now, and taking your rest? it is enough, the hour is come; behold the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of 42 sinners. Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 saying; Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless, not my will, but thine be done. 43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, 44 strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly. And his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down 45 to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to the disciples, he found them sleeping 46 for sorrow; and said unto them; Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
