MATTHEW XVIII. offences! For it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom 8 the offence cometh! Where- 43 fore, if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee; it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands, or two feet, to be cast into 9 everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, 45 and cast it from thee; it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell-fire.

MARK IX.

it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched, where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quench46 ed, where their worm dieth

not, and the fire is not 47 quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out; it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into 48 hell-fire, where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

MARK IX.

For every one shall be salted with fire; and every sacrifice

50 shall be salted with salt.

10

Salt is good; but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

MATTHEW XVIII.

Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold 11 the face of my Father which is in heaven. For the Son of 12 man is come to save that which was lost. How think ye? if a man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray; doth he not leave the ninety and nine upon the moun

tains, and goeth and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which ́ 14 went not astray. Even so, it is not the will of

your Father which is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. 15 Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone. If he 16 shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother; but if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more; that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may 17 be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church; but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publiVerily I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever ye 19 shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my 20 Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

21 Then came Peter to him, and said; Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven 22 times? Jesus saith unto him; Not, I say unto thee, until 23 seven times, but until seventy times seven. Therefore is

the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which 24 would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him which owed him 25 ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and chil26 dren, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying; 27 Lord have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then

the Lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and 28 loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, which owed him an hundred pence; and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying; Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellow-servant fell down and besought him, saying; 30 Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he

would not; but went and cast him into prison, til he should 31 pay the debt. So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were very sorry; and came and told unto their

Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him; O thou wicked servant, I forgave 33 thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me; shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as 34 I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due un35 to him. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother.

TO THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS.

LUKE IX.

And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers before his face; and they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans to make ready 53 for him. And they did not receive him, because his face 54 was as though he would go to Jerusalem. And when his

disciples, James and John, saw this, they said; Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and 55 consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said; Know ye not what manner of spirit 56 ye are of? And they went to another village.

MARK X.

And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judea, by the farther side of Jordan; and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he 2 taught them again. And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him; Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. 3 And he answered and said unto them; What did Mo4 ses command you? And they said; Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them ; For the hardness of your heart he

And it came to pass, that 1 when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judea, beyond 2 Jordan. And great multititudes followed him; and he healed them there. 3 The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him; Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4 And he answered and said unto them; Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning, made 5 them male and female? and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they twain 6 shall be one flesh." Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say unto him; 8 Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her 8 away? He saith unto them; Moses, because of the

His disciples say unto him; If the case of the man be 11 so with his wife, it is not good to marry. But he said unto

them; All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom 12 it is given. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb; and there are some eunuchs,

Then were there brought | 13 unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. 14 14 But Jesus said; Suffer little children, and forbid them. not to come unto me; for of such is the kingdom of 15 heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

MARK X.

And they brought young children to him, that he should tou ht em; and hs| disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them; Suffer the little children to come unto me, forbid them not; for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
