commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and. gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 37 And they did all eat, and were filled; and they took up of the broken meat that was left 38 seven baskets full. And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and 39 children. And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala. MARK VIII. satisfy these men with bread 5 here in the wilderness? And he asked them; How many loaves have ye? And they 6 said; Seven. And they had a few small fishes; and he blessed, and commanded to set them 8 also before them. So they did eat, and were filled; and they took up of the broken meat that was left, sev9 en baskets. And they that had eaten were about four thousand; and he sent them away. 10 16 The Pharisees also and the Sadducees came, and, tempting, desired him that he would shew them a sign from heav2 en. He answered and said 12 unto them; When it is evening, ye say; It will be fair weather; for the sky is 3 red. And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts 11 of Dalmanutha. And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him. And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith; Why doth this generation seek after a sign? Verily I say unto you, there shall no sign be given to this generation. And he left them, and entering into the ship again, departed to the other side. And in the morning; It will be foul weather today; for the sky is red and 13 lowering. O ye hypocrites! ye can discern the face of the sky, but can ye not discern the signs of the times? 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a 22 MATTHEW XVI. sign; and there shall no sign. be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed. 5 And when his disciples were 14 come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. 6 Then Jesus said unto them; take heed, and beware of 15 the leaven of the Pharisees 7 and of the Sadducees. And they reasoned among them MARK VIII. Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf. And he charged them saying; Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod. selves, saying; It is because 16 And they reasoned among we have taken no bread. 8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said; O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because have ye 9 brought no bread? Do ye themselves, saying; It is because we have no bread. 17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them; Why reason ye, because have ye no bread? Perceive ye not MARK VIII. And he cometh to Bethsaida. And they bring a blind 23 man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, 24 he asked him if he saw aught. Then under stood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees. When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him; Twelve. And when the seven, among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said; Seven. And he said unto them; How is it that ye do not understand? 20 21 MARK VIII. 25 I see men, as trees, walking. After that, he again upon his eyes, and made him look up; 26 stored, and saw every man clearly. And he 18 put his hands. and he was resent him away to his house, saying; Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town. LUKE IX. And it came to pass as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him; and he asked them, saying; Whom say the people that I am? 19 They answering, said; John the Baptist; but some say Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is 20 risen again. He said unto them; but whom say ye that I am? Peter answering, said; The Christ of God. 21 And he straitly charged MATTHEW XVI. Then charged he his disciples, that they should 32 33 And Peter began to re But when he had turned about, and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying; Get thee behind me Satan; for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men. tell no man, that he was 34 And when he had called the time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and 35 chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again 22 the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying; Be it far from thee, Lord; this shall 23 not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter; Get thee behind me, Satan ; thou art an offence unto me; for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. 24 Then said Jesus unto his dis ciples; If any man will come after me, let him deny him people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them: Whosoever will follow after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, shall save 36 it. (For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his 37 own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for 38 his soul?) Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glo LUKE IX. them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; 22 saying; The son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and be slain, and be raised 23 the third day. And he said to them all; If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save 25 it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose him26 self, or be cast away ? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's and of the holy 27 angels. But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God. |
