1. They, when they went in to offer, were fain to do it ftanding, Heb. 10. to fignify, that God had no Satisfaction therein; but he, when he had offered one Sacrifice for Sir, for ever fate down on the Right Hand of God, Jer. 12. to fig nify, that God was very well pleased with his Offering.

14 Thofe High Priefts could not offer but once a Year in the holiest of all, Ver.. 7. but our

High-Prieft, he ever liveth to make Interceffion for us, Heb. 7. 24, 25.

21. Thofe High-Priefts could never by their Sacrifices bring the Soul of any Sinner to Glory, by Virtue of it felf; but Jefus hath by one Of fering (as I faid before) perfected for ever those that he did die for. Thus in brief I have fhewed in fome Particulars, how and wherein Jefus our high Priest doth go beyond thofe High

Priefts:

Priefts; and many more without Question might be mentioned, but I forbear.

A fifth Office of Chrift in Reference to the fecond Covenant, it was that he should be the Fore-runner, again to Heaven before his Saints that were to follow after. First, he ftrikes Hands in the Covenant. Secondly he ftands bound as a Surety to fee, every thing in the Covenant accomplished, that was to be done on his Part; then he brings the Meffage from Heaven to the World; and before he goeth back, he offereth himfelf for the fame Sins that he agreed to fuffer for; and fo foon as this was done, he goeth Poft haft to Heaven again; not only to exercife the fecond Part of his Prieftly-Office, but as our Fore-runner, to take Poffeffion for us, even into Heaven it felf, as you may fee, Heb. 6. 20. where it is faid, Whither the Fore-runner is for us entred.

Firft, He is run before to open Heaven Gates: Be ye open ye everlasting Doors, that the King of Glory may enter in.

Secondly, He is run before to take Poffeffion of Glory in our Natures for us.

Thirdly, He is run before to prepare us our Places against we come after, I go to prepare a Place for you, John 14. 1, 2, 3.

Fourthly, He is run thither to make the Way eafy, in that he hath first trodden the Path himfelf. Fifthly, He is run thither to receive Gifts for us All Spiritual and Heavenly Gifts

had been kept from us, had not These things Christ fo foon as the time appointed bave 1 Spoken was come, run back to the Kingdom of Glory to receive them for us. But I cannot ftand to enlarge up

to fhew you, that Saints are

under Grace.

or

on these glorious Things, the Lord enlarge them upon your Hearts by Meditation.

Here now I might begin to fpeak of his pro phetical and kingly Office, and the Priviledges that do, and fhall come thereby, but that I fear I fhall be too tedious; therefore at this time I fhall pass them by. Thus you may fee how the Covenant of Grace doth run, and with whom it was made, and alfo what were the Conditions thereof.

Now then, this Grace; this everlafting Grace of God comes to be free to us thro' the Satisfaction (according to the Conditions) given by another for us; for tho' it be free, and freely given to us, yet the obtaining of it did coft our Head, or Publick-man, a very dear Price (1 Cor. 6. 20.) For you are bought with a Price, even with the precious Blood of Chrift (1 Pet. 1. 9.) So it is by another, I fay, not by us; yet it is as fure made over to us, even to fo many of us as do, or fhall believe, as if we had done it, and obtained the Grace of God our felves: Nay, furer; for confider, I fay, this Grace is free to us, and comes upon Score, by Virtue of the Labour and Purchase of another for us; mark, that which is obtained by another for us, is not obtained for us by our felves: Now, but Chrift hath (Heb. 9. 12.) not by the Blood of Goats and Galves obtained eternal Redemption for us (which were things offered by Men under the Law but by his own Blood (meaning Chrift's) he enter'd into the holy Place, having obtained eternal Redemption for us.

clear

Secondly, it comes to be unchangeable through the Perfection of that Satisfaction that was given to God through the Son of Mary, for us; for hatever the Divine, Infinite, and eternal Justice

of

of God did call for at the Hands of Man, if ever he intended to be a Partaker of the Grace of God, this Jefus, this one Man, this publick Perfon, did compleatly give a Satisfaction to it, even fo effectually; which caufed God not only to fay, I am pleafed, but, I am well pleafed, Mat. 3. 17. Compleatly and fufficiently fatisfied with thee on their Behalf; for fo you muft understand it : Mark there thefe following Words, And having made Peace (or compleatly made up the Difference) through the Blood of his Crofs by him, to reconcile all things unto himself; by him I fay, whether they be things in Earth, or things in Heaven, and you who were fometimes alienated, and Enemies in your Mind by wicked Works; yet new hath he reconciled, how, in the Body of his Flesh, through death, to prefent you holy; mark, holy and unblameable, and unreprovable in his fight, Colof. 1. 21, 22, 23. And thus it is Grace unchangeable Grace to us; because it was obtained, yea, compleatly obtained for us, by Jefus Chrift, God

man.

Object. But, fome may fay, how was it poffible that one Man Jefus, by one,Offering,, fhould fo compleatly obtain and bring in unchangeable Grace, for fuch an innumerable Company of Sinners as are to be faved?

Anfw. First, In that he was every way fitted for fuch a Work. And, Secondly, In that, as I faid before, he did every way compleatly fatisfy that which was offended by our Difobedience to the former Covenant. And for the clearing of this,.

First, Confider, Was it Man that had offended? He was Man that gave the Satisfaction. For 45 by Man came "Death, even fo alfo by Man did
