The earth, O Lord, is full of Thy mercy O teach me Thy statutes.

LORD, Thou hast dealt graciously with Thy servant according unto Thy word.

O learn me true understanding and knowledge: for I have believed Thy commandments.

Before I was troubled, I went wrong but now have I kept Thy word.

Thou art good and gracious : O teach me Thy

statutes.

The proud have imagined a lie against me : but I will keep Thy commandments with my whole heart.

Their heart is as fat as brawn but my delight hath been in Thy law.

It is good for me that I have been in trouble : that I may learn Thy statutes.

The law of Thy mouth is dearer unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

THY

HY hands have made me and fashioned me : O give me understanding, that I may learn Thy commandments.

They that fear Thee will be glad when they see me because I have put my trust in Thy word.

I know, O Lord, that Thy judgments are right: and that Thou of very faithfulness hast caused me to be troubled.

O let Thy merciful kindness be my comfort: according to Thy word unto Thy servant.

O let Thy loving mercies come unto me, that I may live for Thy law is my delight.

:

Let the proud be confounded, for they go wickedly about to destroy me but I will be occupied in Thy commandments.

Let such as fear Thee, and have known Thy testimonies be turned unto me.

O let my heart be sound in Thy statutes that I be not ashamed.

[Act of Faith, as in p. 80.]

For a Life consistent with our Faith.

ALMIGHTY God, Who shewest to them that

be in error the light of Thy truth, to the intent that they may return into the way of righteousness; Grant unto all them that are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's Religion, that they may eschew those things that are contrary to their profession, and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same; through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Life unto Righteousness.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, heavenly Father, we give Thee humble thanks, for that Thou hast vouchsafed to call us to the knowledge of Thy grace and faith in Thee; and humbly we beseech Thee to grant, that we being dead unto sin and living unto righteousness, and being buried with Christ in His death, may crucify the old man, and utterly abolish the whole body of sin; and that as we were made partakers of the death of Thy Son, we may also be partakers of His resurrection; so that finally with the residue of Thy holy Church we may be inheritors of Thine everlasting kingdom, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

[Final Prayers, as in p. 82.]

WEDNESDAY EVENING.

IF

CONFESSION.

F we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.-] John i. 8, 9.

PSALM 51. N. V. ver. 1, 2, 4, 9, 12.

[blocks in formation]

Wash off my foul offence,

sin;

And cleanse me from my
For I confess my crime, and see
How great my guilt has been.

Against Thee, LORD, alone,
And only in Thy sight,

Have I transgress'd, and, tho' condemn'd,

Must own Thy judgments right.

Blot out my crying sins,

Nor me in anger view;

Create in me a heart that's clean,

An upright mind renew.

The joy Thy favour gives
Let me again obtain;
And Thy free Spirit's firm support
My fainting soul sustain.

The Lesson.-Daniel ix.

AND I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: and I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love Him, and to them that keep Thy commandments; we have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly, and have rebelled, even by departing from Thy precepts and from Thy judgments neither have we hearkened unto Thy servants the prophets. O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto Thee, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; because of the trespass that we have trespassed against Thee. O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of faces, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against Thee. To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against Him; neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in His laws, which He set before us by His servants the prophets. O Lord, according to Thy righteousness, I beseech Thee, let Thine anger and Thy fury be turned awaybecause for our sins Thy people are become a reproach to all that are about us. Now therefore, O our God, hear the prayer of Thy servant, and his supplications: for we do not present our supplications before Thee for our righteousnesses, but

for Thy great mercies. O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, hearken and do; defer not, for Thine own sake, O my God: for Thy city and Thy people are called by Thy Name.

MY

Psalm cxix.

Y soul hath longed for Thy salvation : and I have a good hope because of Thy word. Mine eyes long sore for Thy word: saying, O when wilt Thou comfort me ?

For I am become like a bottle in the smoke : yet do I not forget Thy statutes.

How many are the days of Thy servant: when wilt Thou be avenged of them that persecute me? The proud have digged pits for me which are not after Thy law.

All Thy commandments are true: they persecute me falsely; O be Thou my help.

:

They had almost made an end of me upon earth but I forsook not Thy commandments. O quicken me after Thy loving-kindness and so shall I keep the testimonies of Thy mouth.

LORD, Thy word : endureth for ever in

heaven.

Thy truth also remaineth from one generation to another: Thou hast laid the foundation of the earth, and it abideth.

They continue this day according to Thy ordinance for all things serve Thee.

If my delight had not been in Thy law I should have perished in my trouble.

I will never forget Thy commandments with them Thou hast quickened me.
