Therefore, with tears, I come to beg Of my offended God,

For pardon, like a child that dreads
His angry parent's rod.

So come I to Thy mercy gate,
Where mercy doth abound,
Imploring pardon for my sin,
To heal my deadly wound.

O Lord, I need not to repeat
The comfort I would have;
Thou know'st, O Lord, before I ask
The blessing I do crave.

Mercy, good Lord, mercy I ask,
This is the total sum;

For mercy, Lord, is all my suit;
Lord, let Thy mercy come!

PRAYERS

TO BE SAID EVERY MORNING BEFORE
THOSE APPOINTED FOR EACH DAY.

LE

All kneeling.

ET Thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of Thy humble servants; and that they may obtain their petitions make them to ask such things as shall please Thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A General Confession of Sin.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from Thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But Thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare Thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore Thou them that are penitent; According to Thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for His sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of Thy holy Name. Amen.

GOD, whose nature and property is ever to have mercy and to forgive, receive our humble petitions; and though we be tied and bound with the chain of our sins, yet let the pitifulness of Thy great mercy loose us; for the honour of Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Advocate.

O

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

Amen.

UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

O Lord, open Thou our lips.

And our mouth shall shew forth Thy praise. O God, make speed to save us.

O Lord, make haste to help us.

All standing.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to

the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now,

shall be

world without end. Amen.

Praise ye the Lord.

The Lord's Name be praised.

THE DAY ON WHICH OUR LORD ROSE FROM
THE DEAD.

THIS

HIS is the day which the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm cxviii. 24.

PSALM 1.-O. V.

The man is bless'd that hath not lent

To wicked men his ear,

Nor led his life as sinners do,

Nor sat in scorners' chair.

But in the love of God the Lord
Doth set his whole delight;
And in the same doth exercise

Himself, both day and night.
He shall be like a tree that is
Planted the rivers nigh,

Which in due season bringeth forth
Its fruit abundantly.

Whose fruit shall never fade nor fall,
But flourishing shall stand;

E'en so all things shall prosper well
That this man takes in hand.

As for ungodly men, with them
It shall be nothing so,

But as the chaff which by the wind
Is driven to and fro.

Therefore the wicked men shall not
In judgment stand upright;
Nor in assemblies of the just

THE

Shall sinners come in sight.

The Lesson.-Rom. xiii. 12-14.

HE night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh; to fulfil the lusts thereof.

THE

Psalm xix. 7—15.

HE law of the Lord is an undefiled law, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, and giveth wisdom unto the simple.

The statutes of the Lord are right, and rejoice the heart the commandment of the Lord is pure, and giveth light unto the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is clean, and endureth for ever the judgments of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold sweeter also than honey, and the honey-comb.

Moreover, by them is Thy servant taught and in keeping of them there is great reward.

Who can tell how oft he offendeth: O cleanse Thou me from my secret faults.
