The Lesson.-Eph. v. 11—17.

HAVE no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

Psalm v.

PONDER my words, O Lord: consider my

meditation.

O hearken Thou unto the voice of my calling, my King, and my God: for unto Thee will I make my prayer.

My voice shalt Thou hear betimes, O Lord: early in the morning will I direct my prayer unto Thee, and will look up.

For Thou art the God that hast no pleasure in wickedness neither shall any evil dwell with

Thee.

Such as be foolish shall not stand in Thy sight: for Thou hatest all them that work vanity.

Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing (lies): the Lord will abhor both the blood-thirsty and deceitful man.

But as for me, I will come into Thine house, even upon the multitude of Thy mercy and in Thy fear will I worship toward Thy holy temple.

Lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness, because of mine enemies: make Thy way plain before my face.

:

For there is no faithfulness in his mouth their inward parts are.very wickedness.

Their throat is an open sepulchre : they flatter with their tongue.

Destroy Thou them, O God; let them perish through their own imaginations: cast them out in the multitude of their ungodliness; for they have rebelled against Thee.

And let all them that put their trust in Thee rejoice they shall ever be giving of thanks, because Thou defendest them; they that love Thy Name shall be joyful in Thee.

For Thou, Lord, wilt give Thy blessing unto the righteous and with Thy favourable kindness wilt Thou defend him as with a shield.

Psalm cxxiii.

[NTO Thee lift I up mine eyes: O Thou that dwellest in the heavens.

Behold, even as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress: even so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until He have mercy upon us.

Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are utterly despised.

Our soul is filled with the scornful reproof of the wealthy and with the despitefulness of the proud.

[Repeat Baptismal Promises and Belief, as in p. 8.]

¶ Kneeling.

For Pardon.

RANT, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, that we, who for our evil deeds do worthily deserve to be punished, by the comfort of Thy grace may mercifully be relieved; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

For Grace and Help.

GOD, the strength of all them that put their trust in Thee, mercifully accept our prayers; and because through the weakness of our mortal nature we can do no good thing without Thee, grant us the help of Thy grace, that in keeping of Thy commandments we may please Thee, both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

For Protection.

ALMIGHTY Lord, and everlasting God, vouchsafe, we beseech Thee, to direct, sanctify, and govern, both our hearts and bodies, in the ways of Thy laws, and in the works of Thy commandments; that through Thy most mighty protection, both here and ever, we may be preserved in body and soul; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

[Final Prayers as on Sunday Morning, p. 10.]

TUESDAY MORNING.

UPRIGHTNESS.

LORD, who shall dwell in Thy tabernacle: or who shall rest upon Thy holy hill?

:

Even he, that leadeth an uncorrupt life and doeth the thing which is right, and speaketh the truth from his heart. Psalm xv. 1, 2.

PSALM 119.-N. V.

How shall the young preserve their ways

From all pollution free?

By making still their course of life

With Thy commands agree.

With hearty zeal for Thee I seek,
To Thee for succour pray;
O suffer not my careless steps
From Thy right paths to stray.
To keep Thy statutes undefac'd
Shall be my constant joy;
The strict remembrance of Thy word
Shall all my thoughts employ.

Be gracious to Thy servant, Lord,
Do Thou my life defend,

That I, according to Thy word,

My future time may spend.

The Lesson.Rom. vi. 19-23.

SPEAK after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Psalm i.

BLESSED is the man, that hath not walked in

the counsel of the ungodly, nor stood in the way of sinners and hath not sat in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the Lord and in His law will he exercise himself day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the waterside

that will bring forth his fruit in due season. His leaf also shall not wither and look, whatsoever he doeth, it shall prosper.

As for the ungodly, it is not so with them but they are like the chaff, which the wind scattereth away from the face of the earth.

Therefore the ungodly shall not be able to stand in the judgment: neither the sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

But the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: and the way of the ungodly shall perish.
