Jerusalem, 'and sent messengers before his face and 52 they went and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. And they did not receive him, because his face was as though 53 he would go to Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw 54 this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and re- 55 buked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. 56 And they went to another village.

And Jesus said unto him, Foxes 58 have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

AND he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me 59 first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury 60 their dead but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.

Therefore 2 said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and 4 salute no man by the way. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first 5 say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your 6 peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the 7 same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 'And 8 into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, 9 The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. But into whatsoever city 10 ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, ' Even the very dust of your city which cleaveth on us, 11 we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. But I say unto you, That it 12 shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city. Wo 13 unto thee, Chorazin! wo unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it shall be 14 more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. And 15' thou, Capernaum! which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell. He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, 16 despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, depiseth him that sent me. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from 18 heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scor- 19 pions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits 20 are subject unto you; but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, 21 O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered to 22 me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father: and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed 23 are the eyes which see the things that ye see. For I tell you, That many 24 prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

And by 31 chance there came down a certain priest that way; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he 32 was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was, and 33 when he saw him, he had compassion on him, 'and went to him, and 34 bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the 35 morrow, when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him: and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. NOW it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into 38 of Martha. a certain village: and a certain woman, named Martha, received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which 39 also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered 40 about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered, and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou 41 art careful, and troubled about many things; but one thing is needful; 42 and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

And he said unto 5 them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of 6 mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? 'And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is 7 now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he 8 is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given 9 you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and 10 to him that knocketh, it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any 11 of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? But some of 15 them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub, the chief of the devils. And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. 16 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom di- 17 vided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house, falleth. If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his 18 kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them 19 out? therefore shall they be your judges. But if I with the finger of 20 God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 21 but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, 22 he taketh from him all his armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a 24 man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he 25 cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh 26 to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. 27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea, 28 rather blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. And 29 when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. For as Jonas was a sign unto the 30 Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. The queen 31 of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon: and behold, a greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh shall rise up in the judgment with this genera- 32 tion, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and behold, a greater than Jonas is here. And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had 38 not first washed before dinner. And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye 39 Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. Ye fools! did not he that 40 made that which is without, make that which is within also? But rather 41 give alms of such things as ye have; and behold, all things are clean unto you. But wo unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint, and rue, and 42 all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Wo unto you, 43 Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! 44 for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto 45 him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also. And he said, Wo 46 unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. Wo unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your 47 fathers killed them. Truly ye bear witness, that ye allow the deeds of 48 your fathers for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres. Therefore also said the wisdom of God, ‘I will send them prophets and 49 apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: that the blood 50 of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; from the blood of Abel, unto the blood 51 of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple :' verily, I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. Wo unto you, 52 lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. And as he 53 said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things, 'laying 54 wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him.

And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge, or a 14 divider over you? And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware 15 of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, 16 The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: and he 17 thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will pull 18 down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods 19 laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But 20 God said unto him, Thou fool! this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? So is 21 he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God. And 22 he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. ''The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. 'Consider 23 the ravens for they neither sow nor reap: which neither have storehouse, nor barn; and God feedeth them. If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, 26 why take ye thought for the rest?
