And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, 17 Simon Bar-jona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, 18 and upon this rock I will build my church: and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of 19 heaven and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven. Then 20 charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

AND when they were come to Capernaum, they that 24 received tribute-money, came to Peter, and said, Doth not your Master pay tribute? He saith, Yes. And when he 25 was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers? Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. 26 Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. 'Notwithstanding, lest 27 we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up: and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.

And 2 Jesus reproves them, and commends hu- Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the mility. Mark ix. 33. midst of them, ' and said, Verily, I say unto you, Except 3 ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this 4 little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso 5 shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me. But, whoso 6 shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Wo unto the world because of of- 7 fences! for it must needs be that offences come; but wo to that man by whom the offence cometh Wherefore, if thy hand or thy foot offend 8 thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee; it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and 9 cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire. Take heed that ye 10 despise not one of these little ones: for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 'How think 11 ye? If a man have a hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say 13 unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine

which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which 14 is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. Moreover, 15

if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in 16 the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And 17 if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican.

Verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth, shall 18 be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven. Again; I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree 19 on earth, as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are 20 gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

THEN came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall 21 by the parable of my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven the two debtors, times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, until 22 seven times; but, until seventy times seven. Therefore is the kingdom 23 of heaven likened unto a certain king which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him 24 which owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to 25 pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell 26 down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with com- 27 passion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant 28 went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, which owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay 30 the debt. So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were 31 very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. Then 32 his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant! I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: shouldest 33 not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tor- 34 menters, till he should pay all that was due unto him. So likewise shall 35 my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

THE Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and 3 ing marriage and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his divorce. Mark 1. 2. Wife for every cause? And he answered and said unto 4 them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning, made them male and female, and said, "For this cause shall a man leave 5 father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?" Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What 6 therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say 7 unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses, because of the 8 hardness of your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put 9

away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away, doth commit adultery. His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so 10 with his wife, it is not good to marry. But he said unto them, All men 11 cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given. For there are 12 some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

Jesus said; "Thou shalt do no murder ;""Thou shalt not commit adultery;" "Thou shalt not steal;" "Thou shalt not bear false witness;" 1" Honor thy father and thy mother," and, "Thou shalt love 19 thy neighbour as thyself." The young man saith unto him, All these 20 things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto 21 him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful for 22 he had great possessions.

THEN said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily, I say unto you, That a rich 23 man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto 24 you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. When his disciples heard 25 it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But 26 Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Then answered Peter, and said 27 unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? And Jesus said unto them, Verily, I say unto you, That 28 ye which have followed me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken 29 houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundred-fold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last, and the 30 last shall be first. For the kingdom of heaven is like 20 unto a man that is a householder, which went out early in the morning to hire laborers in his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour, and saw others stand- 3 ing idle in the market-place, ' and said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, I will give you. And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did like- 5 wise. And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others stand- 6 ing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle? They 7 say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. ard, Call the laborers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they 10 supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured 11 against the good man of the house, 'saying, These last have wrought but 12 one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. But he answered one of them, and said, 13 Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny y? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as 14 unto thee. Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? is 15 thine eye evil because I am good? So the last shall be first, and the first 16 last for many be called, but few chosen.

And he said unto her, What wilt thou? 21 She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. But Jesus 22 answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. And he saith unto 23 them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indig- 24 nation against the two brethren. But Jesus called them unto him, and 25 said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall 26 not be so among you but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister: and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be 27 your servant: even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, 28 but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
