the self-fame Spirit, dividing to every Man sevarally as he will. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one Body, whether we be Jezus or Gentiles, whether que be Bond or Free; and have been all riade to drink into one Spirit, i Cor. xii. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13. And at the 14th Chapter, at the 15th Verse, he faith, I will pray with ike Spirit, and with the Understanding also. I will fing with the Spirit, and with the Understanding also And St. John faith to the Churches, The Anointing which we have received of him, abideth in you, and ge need rot that any Man trach gou; but as the Same Anointing teacheth gou of all Things, and is Truth, eand is no Lie, and even as it halb taught you, y gall abide in bin, i John ii. 27. So also saith the Lord Jesus, But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will fend in my Name, be mall teach you all Things, and bring all Things to gour Remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you, John xiv. 26. And again he faith, All be taught of God, John vi. 45. Isaiah liv. 13. In the Acts of the Ajoples are many Places, where Mention is made of the Holo Spirit's guiding, and fending the Disciples. In the Account we have of the Converlion of the Eunuch, who was a great Man under Candace, Queen of Ethiopia, it is said, The Spirit said unto Philif, go near, and join thyself to this Chariot, Aets viii, 29. And in the 39th Verte, The Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip. So is written, That while Peter thought on the Vision, the Spirit said unto him, behold three Men seek thee, Acts X. 19. And when he mentions it to the Brethren in Fudca, he faith, The Spirit bade me go with them, Chap. si. 12 : In another Place it is written, As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me Barnabas and Paul, for the Work where
unto I have called them. So they leing sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed, Chap. xiii. 2, 4. St. Paul also speaketh thus ; And now behold I go bound in the Spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing the Things that shall befall me there ; save that the Holy Ghost witneseth in every City, saying, that Bonds and Afflictions abide me, Chap. xx. 22, 23.
And it is written of him, that when he was at Corinth, Paul was presed in Spirit, and testified to the Jews, that Jesus was Christ, Chap. xviii. 5. So when he, and Silas, and Timotheus, had gone through Phrygia, and the Region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the Word in Asia ; after they were come to Mysia, ther_clay'd to go into Bitlaynia, but the Spirit juffered them not, Chap. xvi. 6, 7.
The fame Apostle, to the Church of Corinth, faith, Afy Speech, and my Precching, was not with inticing Words, of Alan's IVisdom, but in the Denonstration of the Spirit, and of Power, 1 Cor. ij. 4. And to the Galatians hé faith, I went up by Revelation, and communicated unto them the Gospel, Gal. ij. 2. Also it is written in the Scripture, in the Days of the first Church, And there stood upone of them, named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit, that there mould be a great Dearth through all the World, Acts xi. 28. So also is it written of the fame Prophet, that when Paul, and those with him, was come through Cesarea to Jerusalem, he came to them, and took Paul's Girdle, and bound himself, and faid, Thus faith the Hily Ghost, Jo Mall the fews at Jerúsalem bind the Man that ownetb this Girdle, Acts xxi. 1. When St. Paul was at Tyre also, certain Brethren, through the Spirit, said urto Paul, that he should not go to ferufelen : Intimating, that if he dit fo, he should fuffer by the fewers, Verle 4. Anda nias also was moved by the Spirit, to go to Paulo when he was first convinced, in his Way to Da.
mascusa mafcus, as it is written, Ananias went his Way, and enter'd into the House, and putting his Hands on bim, said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the Way as thou camest, bath lent me, that thou mightest receive thy Sight, aiid be filled with the Holy Ghost, Acts ix. 17. Also the Scripture faith of Apollos, This Man T'as instructed in the Way of the Lord, and being fervent in the Spirit, be spake, and taught diligently the Things of the Lord, Aets xviii, 25. So St. Paul, when he took his Leave of the Elders of the Church of Ephesus, faith, Take heed oberefore unto yourselves, and to all the Flock over which the Holy Ghost bath made you Overseers, Aets xx. 28. When he was come to Jerusalem, and apprehended, and brought before Felix the Governor, and was ready to have been torn to Pieces of the People, and at last by the Soldiers brought into the Caitle, the Scripture faith, The Night follozeing the Lord food ljj him, and said, be of good Cheer, Paul, for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear IVitness also at Rome, Aets xxiii. u. By all these Scriptures I have proved plainly, that the Apostles, and Prophets, and the Church of Disciples in their Days, were guided by the Spirit of God; but becaule fome may be yet unconvinced, that the fame Spirit is to rule in the Church of GOD, I would prove, that all Worknip not done in the Spirit of Christ, is no more in God's Sight, than the Worship of Heathens ; for as they worship they kroz vot tebat, fo do we, if the Spirit hath not declared the true GOD in our Hearts; neither (if we are void of the Knowledge of God, through the Holy Ghost,), are u bit better than the Arbenians, who dedicated their Altar to the Unknown1 GOD.
When our Saviour talked with the Woman of Samaria, he found this Fault of the Samaritans, that they qor;bij peil they knew not what ; and to unde
eive her, who thought GOD chose some Places more than other for his Worship, he taught her the true Worship was inward in the Holy Ghost, saying, The true Worshippers Mall worship the Father, in Spirit and Truth, John. iv. 23.
And St. Paul faith the same to the Philippians, We are the Circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, Phil. iii. 3. Here is it very plain, what Manner of Worship pleaseth the Father. Now that this is the Worship wherein only will God be worshipped to the End of the World, is plain from our Saviour's Promise, still to be with his Church, where two or three are gathered together in his Name; as it is written, Where two or three are gathered together in my Name, there am I in the MidA of them, Mat. xviii. 20. And again, Lo! I am always with you, even unto the End of the World, Mat. xxviii. 20. Neither can it be proved, that any are saved, but such as are led by the Holy Ghost, and every Church also where Jesus is not the Governor, cannot be of GOD, however they may have the form of Godliness. As many as are led by the Spirit of God, are the Sons of God, Rom. viii. 14.
4. And lastly, He is the Witness of the Children of God, whereby they kno7d that they are born of him, and are asured of eternal Life : baving been sealed thereunto by him. GOD faith in Isaiah, Behold, I have given him for a Witnefs to the People, Ifaiah lv. 4. St. Paul, speaking of Christ's dying for us, and how we are forgiven, thro' him, laith, Whereof the Holy Ghost is a Witness to us, Heb. x. 15. Also in ariother Place, speaking of those who heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, faith, God also bearing them Witness, both with Signs and Wonders,---and the Gifts of the Holy Glost, Heb.ii. 4. So St. Peter, when he spake of the Conversion of the Gentiles, faith, And God which knoweth the Hearts, bare then Witness, giving unto theria the Holy Ghost, even as
he did unto us, Acts xv. 8. Again, St. Paul faith, For ye have not received the Spirit of Bondage again to fear, but ye have received the Spirit of Adoption, whereby me cry Abba, Father : The Spirit itself beareth witness zeith our Spirit, that "we are the Children of God, Rom. viii. 15, 16. And St. John faith, It is the Spirit that beareth Witness, because the Spirit is Truth: For there are three that bar Récord in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one : And there are three that bear Witness in Earth, the Spirit, and the Water, and the Blood, and these three agree in one. If we receive the Witness of Alen, the Witness of God is greater ; for this is the Witness of God, which he hath testified of bis Son. Ile that believeth on the Son of God, bath the Witness in himself; he that believeth 110t God, hath made him a Liar, becaule be believeth not the Record that God gave of bis Son. And this is the Record that God hath given to 15 eternal Life, and this Life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath Life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not Life. These Things have ! 1 written unto you that believe on the Name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal Life, 1 John v. 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13. Here every one that readeth may fee plain, that nothing less than the juward Witriels or Testimony should satisfy us that we are Believers. Yea, the Apostle speaks clearly, saying that all (however they may say they believe) if they don't believe the Witness or Record of GOD, they make GOD a Liar. GOD faith All (that is, all in the New Covenant) mall krioze me, from the least to the greatest, Jer. xxxi. 34. And again, He that believeth on me bath everlasting Life : And again, He that believeth on the Son of God hath the Witness in himself; 1 John v. 10. If any there. fore can dare to say they believe, and yet don't kivow the Lord, neither have eternal Life, neither
