Ii And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I knowthat thou art a fair woman to look upon:

Ii Therefore it (hall come to pass, when the Egyptians sliall fee thee, that they lhall fay, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will lave thee alive.

15 Say, I pray thee, thouarf my sister: that it may be well with me for thy fake; and my foul lhall live because of thee.

1+ And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman, that ihe ivas very fair.

15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.

16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had Iheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menfervants, and maidservants, and Ihe asses, and camels.

17 And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his houle with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.

18 And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou halt done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that ihe was thy wife?

19 Why faidst thou. She is my sister? fo I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

10 And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.

GENESIS Abram and Lot disagree.

CHAP. XIII.

1 Abram and Lot return out os Egypt. 7 By disagreement they part asunder. 14. Old's promise renewed to Abram.

AND Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. z And Abram nvas very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

3 And he went on his journeys from, the south, even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Hai;

4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

7 <\ And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle, lnd the herd men of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and thePcrizzite dwelled then in the land.

8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou ivilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it ivas well watered every where, before the Lor D destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lor D, like the land ofEgypt, asthou comestunto Zoar.

11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

11 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched /»'.(tent toward Sodom.

13 But the men of Sodom ivere wicked and sinners before the Lord ex. ccedingly.

14 ^[ And the Lord said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can

17 Arise, walk through the land, in the length of it and in the breadth ot" it: for I will give it unto thee.

AFTER these things the word of the Lor D came unto Abraminavidon, saying, Fearnot, Abram : I .-rnthy shield, and thy exceeding greut reward.

2 And Abram laid, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, feeing I go childless, and the steward of my houle is this Eiiezer of Demascus?

3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: aud, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.

7 And the angel of the Lo R D found hei by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur. _

8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence earnest thou? and whither will thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai.

9 fj And the angel of the Lor D said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.

10 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, I will multiply thy seed exceedingly, that it lhall not be numbered for multitude.

11 And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmacl; because the Lord Jiath heard thy affliction.

11 And he will be a wild man; his hand will it*againstevcry man, and every man's hand against him: and he (hall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

13 And she called the name of the LorD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for 'he said, Have I also here looked after hr - that seeth me?

14. Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadalh and Bered.

15 «y Ancf Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son's name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.

16 And Abram was fourscere and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmacl to Abram.

6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee; and kings shall come out of thee.

i And I will give unto thee, and to tbr feed after thee, the land wherein tbim art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and 1 will be their God.

9 And God said unto Abraham, Thou fiialt keep my covenant therefore, thou, arid thy seed aster thee, in their generations.

10 f This is my covenant, which ye fcall keep between me and you, and thy seed after thee; every man child among you shall be circumcised.

Ji And ve shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token rf the covenant betwixt me and you.

16 «J And I will bless her, and give" thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and (he shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.

17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and laid in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

iS And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!

19 And God said, Sarah thy wife lhall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac; and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

10 And as for Iflimael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful,and will multiplyhim exceedingly: twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.

11 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

22 And he lest off talking with him, and God went up from Abraham. .

13 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house: and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin, in the selfsame day, as God said unto him.

24 And Abraham -was ninety years old and nine, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

»6 In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Iflimael his son.

17 And all the men of his house, born in the house, and bought with money of the stranger were circumcised with him.

CHAP. XVIII. 1 Abraham enltrtainelh three angels. 9 Sa. rah'slaughter. 17 Sodom''sdejiruilion revealed to Abraham. 23 His hiterccjsion. AND the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he fat iif the tent door in the heat of the day;

3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and res£ yourselves under the treet

5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye mall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou baft said.

6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.

7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

8 And he took butter and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

9 ^f And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife (hall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

11 Now Abraham and Sarah inert old, andweti stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the mannerof women.

i ^Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

13 And the Lord said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?

14 Is anything too hard for the Lo R O .' At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah (hall have a son.

15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laugh ed not} for (he was afraid. And he laid, Nay; but thou didst laugh.

16 And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way.

17 fl And the Lo R D said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;

ii Seeing that Abraham dial! surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth (hall be blessed in him?

19 For I know him, that he will command his children, and his houfhold after him, and they (hall keep the way:of the Lo R D , to do justice and judgement; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

so And the Lord said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin it very grievous;

*i I will go down now, and see wbe

to the cry of it, which b come un: me; and if not, I will know.

ss And the men turned their face from thence, and went toward Sodom but Abraham stood yet before the Lo R. o

13 fl And Abraham drew near, a i, said, Wilt thou also destroy the righ teous with the wicked?

14. Peradventure there be fifty righ teous within the city: wilt thou also de flroy and not (pare the place for th fifty righteous that are therein?

25 That be far from thee to do afte this manner, to (lay the righteous wit the wicked: and that the righteous (houl be as the wicked, that be far from thee Shall not the Judge of all the earth d right?

16 And the Lor D said, If I find in So dom fifty righteous within the city, the; I will spare all the place for their lakes

27 And Abraham answered and said Behold now, I have taken upon me t< speak unto the Lo R D , which am but d us and allies:

2$ Peradventure there (hall lack flvi of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack o/'sive? And he said If I find there forty and five, I will uo destroy it.

29 And he spake unto him yet again and said,' Peradventure therestiall b< forty found there. And he said, I wil not do it for forty's fake.

30 And he said unto him, Oh let no the Lord be angry, and I will speak Peradventure there (hall thirty be fount there. And he said, I will not do it, i I find thirty there.

31 And lie said, Behold now, I havi taken upon me to speak unto the Lo R D Peradventure there (hall be twenty fount there. And he said, I will not deslroj it for twenty's fake.

32 And he said, Oh let not the Lo R t be angry, and I will speak yet but thii once: Peradventure ten (hall be fount there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's (ake.

33 And the Lo* D went bis way, ai soon as he had left communing wit! Abraham: and Abraham returned unt< his place.

CHAP. XIX. 1 Lot entertaineth tivo angels. 24 Sodon and Gomorrah destroyed. 26 Lot's <wifi fvnijhed. 31 His incest.
