satisfy us early with thy mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil. And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it. Ps. cxviii, 25. And he said, Unto Hebron. 2 Sam. v, 19, 22-25. And David enquired of the LORD saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines ? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up; for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine haud. And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry-trees. Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us, (for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us,) if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us. Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say unto Zedekiah, Thu saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city. Jer. xxxvii, 17. Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out; and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is; for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. Jer. xxxviii, 14 Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet unto him into the third entry that is in the house of the LORD; and the king said unto Jeremiah, I will ask thee a thing, hide nothing from me. 1 Sam. xiv, 18. 19. And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him. ENQUIRIES UNANSWERED. 1 Sam. xiv, 35-38. And Saul built an altar unto the LORD: the same was the Arst altar that he built unto the LORD. And Saul said, Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and spoil them until the morning-light, and let us not leave a man of them. And they said, Do whatsoever seemeth good unto thee. Then said the priest, Let us draw near hither unto God. And Saul asked counsel of God, Shall I go down after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hand of that day. And Saul said, Draw Israel? But he answered him not ye near hither all the chief of the people: and know and see wherein this sin hath been this day. PRAYER FOR THE DIVINE Ps. xvii, 4, 5. Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. Ps. xix, 11-13. Moreover, by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptnous sins; let them not have dominion ever me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Ps. xxv, 19-21. Consider mine enemies, for they are many; and O keep my soul, and deliver me: they hate me with cruel hatred. let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee. Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear. Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good. B hold, I have longed after thy precep s: quicken me in thy lighteousness. And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy Julgmnts. So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever. And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts. Let my heart be sound in thy statutes, that I be not ashamed. They had almost consumed me upon earth: but I forsook not thy precepts. Quicken me after thy loving-kindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth. Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: an I let ine not be ashamed of my hope. Hold thou me up, and shall be safe: an I will have respect unto thy statutes coutinually. Order my steps in thy word; and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Deliver me from the oppression of man: So will I keep thy precepts. Great are thy tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to thy judgments. Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD according to thy loving kindness. Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. Ps. cxx, 2, 3. Deliver my soul, O LORD from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue. What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue. Ps. cxll. 3. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity; and let me not eat of their dain'i-s. Acts iv. 29.
