"A mind not to be changed by place or time. The mind is its own place, and in itselfCan make a heav'n of hell, a hell of heav'n."― John Milton, Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost is written by the 17th-century English poet John Milton. Milton's purpose, as stated in Book I, is to "justify the ways of God to men".

Paradise Lost starts with Satan waking up right after he has just been banished from Heaven and finding himself in a boiling lava lake in Hell. He proceeds to organize his followers with the idea of corrupting the newly created Earth and God's new and most favored creation, Humanity. Satan volunteers to do the deed himself and brave the danger of entering Earth, and later the Garden of Eden.

In Heaven, however, it was revealed that God can see what Satan is planning and has a conversation with his Son and says that he knows that Satan will succeed in tempting mankind. The Son volunteers to intervene on man's behalf and this made all of the Heavens glad.

The scene shifts to Eden where Satan has reached the Garden and finds Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve were presented as people without sin but have passions and personalities. They had a romantic and sexual relationship. At first, Satan was chased out of the Garden but he eventually made Eve eat the forbidden fruit. Upon learning that Eve has sinned, Adam knowingly commits the same sin. After that, they had lustful sex for the first time.

Meanwhile, Satan returns to Hell in triumph.

Why did Adam knowingly commit the same sin? Did the two of them feel guilty afterward or were they happy with their decision? The banished angels in Hell were successful in their scheme, but how does the story end for them?
