Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (20 Ex. 3,) 28. What is the second commandment ?

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them; for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

(20 Ex. 4, 5, 6.) 29. Is God our Creator and continual Preserver ?

God that made the world and all things therein—and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation in Him we live and move, and have our being. every thing? Whether, therefore, ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. (1. Cor. 10. 31.)

IV. OF JESUS CHRIST.

1. What promise of a Saviour was made to our first

parents after their fall ? I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. (3 Gn. 15.)

2. What promise was made to Abraham, and then

to Isaac, and then to Jacob? . In thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed,

(12 Gn. 3.) (26 Gn. 4.) (28 Gn. 14.) 3. What prophecy of Christ did Jacob give when

he was dying? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall

5. What were the Jewish Sacrifices appointed for?

A shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things. (10 Heb. 1.)

It is not possible that the blood of hulls and goats should take away sins— We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all-For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (10 Heb. (4, 10, 14.)

Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world, (1 Jn. 29.)

7. What did Isaiah prophecy of the birth of Christ?

Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (7 Is. 14.) which being interpreted is God with us. (1 Mt. 23.)

Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called' Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end. (9 Isa. 6, 7.)

10. How did the heavenly host express their praises

at the birth of Christ? Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill towards men. (2 Luke 14.)

Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: who when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he

He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (53 Is. 7.)

18. Did Christ tell his disciples of the cruel suffer

ings which he foresaw, that he should endure? Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the Prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished: for he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on; and they shall scourge bim, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. (18 Lk. 31 to 33.)

19. When Christ drew near to the hour of his most

dreadful sufferings what was his conduct? Being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. (22 Lk. 44.)

O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me ; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.- O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. (26 Mt. 39. 42.)

20. How did his disciples act when he was taken

by his enemies ? They all forsook him and fled. (14 Mr. 50.). 21. What did Pilate say when Christ was accused ?

Christ?
