HYMN 44. C. M.

STEELE.

The Saviour's invitation. John vii. 37,

THEMA

HE Saviour calls-let every ear
Attend the heav'nly sound;

Ye doubting souls, dismiss your fear,
Hope smiles reviving round.

2 For ev'ry thirsty, longing heart, Here streams of bounty flow,

And life, and health, and bliss impart
To banish mortal wo.

3 Ye sinners, come, 'tis mercy's voice;
The gracious call obey;
Mercy invites to heav'nly joys-
And can you yet delay ?

4 Dear Saviour, draw reluctant hearts; To thee let sinners fly,

And take the bliss thy love imparts
And drink, and never die.

HYMN 45. C. M.

MEDLEY.

10 Are in the gospel found!

H, what amazing words of grace

Suited to ev'ry sinner's case,
Who knows the joyful sound.

2 Come then, with all your wants and wounds, Your ev'ry burden bring; Here love, eternal love abounds,

A deep celestial spring.

3 This spring with living water flows, And living joy imparts;

Come, thirsty souls, your wants disclose, And drink with thankful hearts.

HYMN 46.

C. M.

WATTS.

THERE

THERE is a voice of sovereign grace
Sounds from the sacred word;

"Ho! ye despairing sinners, come,
And trust upon the Lord."

2 My soul obeys th' Almighty call,
And runs to this relief;

I would believe thy promise, Lord
Oh! help my unbelief.

3 To the dear fountain of thy blood,
Incarnate God, I fly ;'

Here let me wash my spotted soul
From crimes of deepest die.

4 Stretch out thine arm, victorious King,
My reigning sins subdue;

Drive the old dragon from his seat
With his apostate crew.

5 A guilty, weak, and helpless worm
On thy kind arms I fall;

Be thou my strength and righteousness,
My Jesus. and my all!

HYMN 47. 8, 7.

NEWTON

John iii. 14.

A Heal'd the burning serpent's bite;

S the serpent, rais'd by Moses,

Jesus thus himself discloses

To the wounded sinner's sight.
2 Hear his gracious invitation:
"I have life and peace to give;
I have wrought out full salvation:
Sinner, look to me and live.

3 You had been for ever wretched,
Had I not espous'd your part;
Now, behold my arms outstretched,
To receive you to my heart.

4 Well may shame, and joy, and wonder,
All your inward passions move;
I could crush you with my thunder,
But I speak to you in love."

5 Dearest Saviour, we adore thee
For thy precious life and death;
Melt each stubborn heart before thee,
Give us all the eye of faith.

Behold, I stand at the door. Rev. iii. 20
ÉHOLD a stranger at the door!
He gently knocks, has knock'd before;

'B

Hath waited long-is waiting still;
You treat no other friend so ill.

2 Oh, lovely attitude, he stands
With melting heart and loaded hands!
Oh, matchless kindness! and he shows
This matchless kindness to his foes!
3 But will he prove a friend indeed ?
He will; the very friend you need;
The friend of sinners-yes, 'tis He,
With garments dy'd on Calvary.
4 Rise, touch'd with gratitude divine;
Turn out his enemy and thine,
That soul-destroying monster sin,
And let the heavenly stranger in.
5 Admit him, ere his anger burn,
His feet departed ne'er return;
Admit him, or the hour's at hand,
You'll at his door rejected stand.

HYMN 49. C. M

AMAZING sight, the Saviour stands

knocks at every door!

Ten thousand blessings in his hands

To satisfy the poor.

2" Behold," he saith, "I bleed and die "To bring you to my rest :

"Hear, sinners, while I'm passing by, "And be forever blest.

3" Will you despise my bleeding love,
"And choose the way to hell?
"Or in the glorious realms above,
"With me forever dwell?

4 "Not to condemn your wretched race
"Have I in judgment come;
"But to display unbounded grace,
"And bring lost sinners home.

5"Will you go down to endless night,
"And bear eternal pain?
"Or in the glorious realms of light
"With me forever reign?

6" Say-will you hear my gracious voice, And have your sins forgiven?

"Or will you make that wretched choice, "And bar yourselves from heaven?"

HYMN 50. C. M.

STEELE.

1 AND will the Lord thus condescend

To visit sinful worms?

Thus at the door shall mercy stand
In all her winning forms?

2 Surprising grace!-and shall my heart
Unmov'd and cold remain ?
Has this hard rock no tender part?
Must mercy plead in vain ?

3 Shall Jesus for admission sue-
His charming voice unheard?

And this vile heart, his rightful due,
Remain forever barr'd?
