Organisations are an integral part of all our lives - whether they are schools, hospitals, transport networks or commercial corporations. But do they really serve our interests in the twenty-first century? A dazzling blend of business vision, social psychology, history and economics, The Support Economy argues compellingly that individuals have outgrown the organisations upon which their well-being depends. Educated and independent-minded, today's consumers and employees want to make informed decisions, get their views heard and control their own destinies - and find dealing with organisations frustrating, confusing and stressful. Shoshana Zuboff, renowned scholar and author of the landmark book In the Age of the Smart Machine, and James Maxmin, a world-class business leader, offer a bold and invigorating diagnosis of the standoff between individuals and companies, which they call 'the transaction crisis'. They go on to show how this holds the key to a whole new era of economic growth: 'the support economy'.
