0

LORD JESUS CHRIST, our Heavenly Father, the Fountain of all life and love, in heaven and on earth, we entreat thy blessing upon these solemn vows of love and duty which these thy children have here assumed. Give them a deep and abiding sense of their dependence upon Thee, that they may look continually to Thee for help and direction. Quicken in their hearts that supreme love to Thee, which alone can make their love for each other, pure, unselfish, and abiding. May the burdens and trials which they must mutually bear draw them ever nearer to Thee and to each other; and may they be truly grateful to Thee for the precious blessings which are the fruits of this holy relation. Make them ever thoughtful and gentle, patient and forbearing, regardful of each other's feelings and opinions, and lenient to each other's infirmities. In all the experiences of life, give them one heart, one mind, and one way. Make them to find their highest joy in learning and doing Thy will together. Lead them in the path of Thy commandments, and bring them, at last, into that celestial marriage, which is the source of all heavenly joy and peace.

And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, for ever. Amen.

After which, the Minister standing up, and laying his hands on the heads of the married pair, shall say:

THE

HE LORD bless you, and keep you; the LORD make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

Then may be sung Sel. 135, or Anthem II.

The Minister may dismiss the assembly with the Benediction.

THE grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST be with you

all. Amen.

¶The Minister shall cause to be inscribed in a Register kept for the purpose, the names of all parties married, the dates, and the names of the witnesses.

THE BURIAL OF THE DEAD,

At the opening of the service, the following or some other suitable Selec tion or Hymn may be sung :—Sel. 72, 37, 69; Hymn 61, 113. The Minister may then read one or more of the following passages:

W!

HAT man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave?-Ps. lxxxix. 48.

SING,

ING, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD* hath comforted His people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. But Zion said, The LORD* hath forsaken me, and my LORD hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.-Is. xlix. 13-16.

THE

LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD* is good to all; and his tender mercies are over all his works.

The LORD is righteous in all His ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of them that fear Him; He also will hear their cry, and will save them. Ps. cxlv. 8, 9,

HE LORD* also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in Thee; for Thou, LORD,* hast not forsaken them that seek Thee.—Ps. ix. 9, 10.

YEA, though I walk through the valley of the shadow

of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.—Ps. xxiii. 4.

AST thy burden upon the LORD,* and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.-Ps. lv. 22.

LORD, Thou hast been our dwelling-place in all gen

erations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever Thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, Thou art GOD. Thou turnest man to destruction, and sayest, Return, ye children of men. For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep in the morning they are like grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth. . . The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
