III.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

EXODUS XX.

AND GOD spake all these words, saying:

I am the LORD thy God, who have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth : thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them for I, the LORD thy GOD, am a jealous GOD, visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy unto the thousandth generation of them that love Me and keep my commandments.

The whole earth is full of his glory.

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

He hath commanded his | covenant for ever:
Holy and reverend is his | Name.

Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; but the

seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy GOD; in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy man-servant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The LORD is in his holy | temple:

Let all the earth keep silence before Him.

Honor thy father and thy mother; that thy days. may be long upon the land which the LORD thy GOD giveth thee.

Thy hands have made me, and fashioned | me :

Make me to understand, that I may | learn | thy command. ments.

Thou shalt not kill.

With the merciful Thou wilt show thy self | merciful:
With an upright man Thou wilt | show thy self | upright.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

With the pure Thou wilt | show thy self pure :

And with the froward Thou wilt | show thy self | froward. 1

Thou shalt not steal.

Order my steps in thy | Word:

And let not any iniquity have do minion | over | me.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

I have chosen the way of | truth :

Thy judgments | have I laid before me.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house.

Incline my heart to thy | testimonies :

And not to covetousness.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.

All that the LORD hath | spoken:
We will do and | hear.

IV.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

DEUT. V.

THE LORD talked with you face to face in the mount,

out of the midst of the fire, saying:

I am the LORD thy GOD, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have none other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, the LORD thy GOD, am a jealous GOD, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy unto the thousandth generation of them that love Me, and keep my commandments,

9:

Holy, holy, holy, LORD | GOD Almighty;
Who was, and who | is, and who is to come.

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy GOD in vain for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Who shall not fear | Thee, O | LORD,

And glorify thy name? for | Thou alone art | holy.

Keep the Sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy GOD hath commanded thee. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work; but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy GOD: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maid-servant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy man-servant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy GOD brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm: therefore the LORD thy GOD commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day.

This is the day which the LORD hath made :
We will rejoice and be glad in | it.

Honor thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy GOD hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee,

The righteous shall inherit the land,

And dwell there in forever.

Thou shalt not kill.

Let thy mercies come unto me, that | I may | live ;
For thy law is | my delight.

Neither shalt thou commit adultery,

Thy word is very | pure :

Therefore thy | servant | loveth | it,

Neither shalt thou steal.

Righteous art | Thou, O LORD;

And upright | are thy | judgments.

Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Through thy precepts get under standing :
Therefore every false way | do I hate.

Neither shalt thou desire thy neighbor's wife.

I have in clined my heart

To perform thy statutes | always, | to the | end.

Neither shalt thou covet thy neighbor's house, his field, or his man-servant, or his maid-servant, his ox, or his ass, or any thing that is thy neighbor's.
