Jewish questions is absolutely necessary if anything is to be
accomplished. Only through such a knowledge can we hope
for that deep, personal feeling which is the first impulse to
action.

THE AMERICAN Jewish CHRONICLE addresses itself to the
English-speaking Jews of America. We desire to awaken
their interest in all things Jewish, for unfortunately they
have been losing touch with their own people, its life and its
aims. In the rapid process of adjustment to a new environ-
ment they are losing the very best of their own traditions.

It is not enough that we should be known as Jews because
we are born that, or because occasionally we attend the
synagogue and contribute to Jewish charities. The earnest
times to-day demand much more. Not even a gift of money
can free a Jew of his responsibility to his people.

THE AMERICAN JEWISH CHRONICLE counts on the sup-
port growing out of the developed sense of duty brought to
American Jewry by the present catastrophe. This support,
we know, will aid us in stirring that which has been dormant
and irresponsive in the Jewish consciousness.

Thus The AMERICAN JEWISH CHRONICLE hopes to be of
service to our people in this catastrophe by helping concen-
trate and direct all Jewish energies towards the betterment of
the fate of our people.
