the present foretaste of eternal bliss. There is no merit in bearing trouble stoically, but it is filial confidence which bears submissively, and it is the Christ-like life in the child of God which is so exemplified. While this is the joy of our hope,—it is not far to the land of promise. It cannot be long before the glory shall be revealed. Whatever the conflict,-whatever the cross,-whatever the reverse,-whatever the mystery,-whatever the trial of faith, the days are passing,—the end is at hand, the morning cometh, -the morning of the day whose sun shall not go down, and where there never more shall be the darkness of succeeding night. We know that Jesus was "a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief," in all the way by which He went, when He was clothed with the humanity which He assumed for our salvation; and all the

consecrated host, redeemed by His precious blood, have gone into His presence by the same path. Let our song then be in the confidence of trust and rest, and soon our voice shall blend with theirs, who in the light of everlasting love, shall sing untiringly before the throne, "the song of Moses and the Lamb."

BROTHER! sister! art thou weary?
Does the darkness shroud thy way?
Is it night with thee, and dreary,
While thou long'st for promised day?
Take the lamp thy Father gives thee,
Kindled with eternal light;

Thou shalt see for love He grieves thee,
Thou shalt learn-His ways are right.
Bow before His feet more lowly,

Breathe thy plaint with fervent prayer;
He will surely heal, though slowly,
He will all thy sorrows bear.

Lift thine eye of faith with gladness,
Look above thy troubles here,—
Soon thou'lt heave no sigh of sadness,
Soon shall fall thy latest tear.
Lean upon thy Saviour ever,
Cast thy burden on His love,—
His is strength will fail thee never,
He will always faithful prove.
Strive for yonder "rest," remaining
For the chosen heirs of grace;
Thou shalt soon, its glory gaining,
Shout the song of endless praise.
Years are passing,-fast they hasten;
Though they may be years of gloom,-
Gloom shall not destroy, but chasten,
And prepare thee for thy home.
