Have you forgotten Manasseh? Have you forgotten Mary Magdalene? Have you forgotten the praying malefactor, in the same condemnation as his dying Lord ? Remember the word of the gospel which cheered the enquiring jailor-" Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." Remember the word of promise, spoken with human voice, but with more than human love, and spoken as surely for you as to those who heard it at the first, "Come unto Me, all ye who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Why are ye doubting? Why do you not rise from the valley, and ascend nearer to your Lord, and take from His hands the goodness that He offers as the solace for your fears? It is not perhaps easy; do not therefore be discouraged, do not foster your doubts and nurse your fears; but look upon the lines of the beloved apostle

which are so full of comfort for all who seek the Lord. Your sins may appear before you mountains high, they may seem to your thought deep as the fathomless sea, they may have been long committed and long excused; but yet it is true, and the truth for every child of faith, "The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth from all sin." Only adopt this word, and it will be your

Peace

"Just as I am, without one plea,

But that Thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come."

Many of the redeemed host went trembling, like you, to heaven, but if they marvel at anything upon that shore, it is that they recal their doubts and fears by the way.

And wet their couch with tears;

They wrestled hard as you do now,
With sins, and doubts, and fears.

"I ask them whence their victory came, They with united breath,

Ascribe their conquest to the Lamb, Their triumph to His death."

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will, with the temptation, also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."-ST. PAUL.

"Touched with a sympathy within,
He knows our feeble frame,

He knows what sore temptations mean,
For he has felt the same."

VERY believer is a Christian soldier in this world, and the world,-while it is to him a state of sojourn, is a condition of conflict. It is not

because his name is written in heaven, that therefore he is free from present strife. The promise of future conquest does not secure against immediate, and often very great difficulties. The cup of tribulation, as the child of God has to take it, has not a few ingredients in it. Temptation is one of the bitterest. Satan cannot destroy one of the redeemed family, but he worries many of them. The world cannot regain those who have been brought out of darkness to light, but it does not withdraw its allurements. The heart shall not overcome the renewed, but it is very hard to keep it in subjection. Many of the most exemplary and earnest followers of Jesus have been almost overladen with difficulties in the conflict. was ever more severely tried in the midst of temptations than Christ Himself? Being tempted may make the course harder across the world, but it
