PREFACE.

THE following little work was compiled by the authoress for her own edification and instruction; but, on showing it to several of her friends, they solicited her to commit it to the press. In that request I concurred, thinking that the arrangement of texts in the way of Prayers or Precepts, expressive of the wants and wishes of the believer's heart, throughout the varied phases of the christian life, with corresponding answers on the opposite page from the rich treasure of the Gospel promises, would be edifying and full of comfort to the sick, the ignorant, and, indeed, the religious community under its widest designation.
