HUMILITY.

Bow down Thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy.-PSALM lxxxvi. 1.

Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.-PROV. xvi. 18.

Deliver the poor and needy.-PSALM lxxxii. 4, first clause.

I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.-PSALM cix. 22.

HUMILITY.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.-PSALM Xxxiv. 18.

:

God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.-ST. JAMES iv. 6, last clause.

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.-ST. MATT. v. 3.

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.-PSALM cxlvii.

Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the rich.-PROV. xvi. 19.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.-ST. JAMES iy. 10.

I am small and despised: yet do not I forget Thy precepts.-PSALM cxix. 141.

Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate.-ROMANS xii. 16, second clause,

The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and He helped me.

Return unto thy rest, O my soul; the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.PSALM CXVI. 6, 7.

My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

For He hath regarded the lowliness of His handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.ST. LUKE i. 46-48, 52.

To this man will I look (saith the Lord), even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at My word.-ISAIAH lxvi. 2, first and second clauses.

Though the Lord be high, yet hath He respect unto the lowly; but the proud He knoweth afar off.-PSALM CXxxviii. 6.

Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before Thee:

And am no more worthy to be called Thy son.-ST. LUKE XV. 18 last clause, 19 first clause.
