Vi legis Amisam Paradisum , grandia magni

Carmina Miltoni, quid nis cun&ta legis ? Res cun&as, & cunétarum primordia rerum,

Et fata, do fines continet ifte liber.
Intima Panduntur magni penetralia mundi,

Scribitur do toto quicquid in Orbe latet.
Terraque, tractusque maris, cælumque profundum,

Swlphureumque Erebi, flamm ivomunque fpecus,
Queque colunt terras, Pontumque do Tartara caca,

Quaque colunt fummi lucida regna Poli.
Et quodcunque illis conclufum eft finibus ufquam,

Et fine fine Chaos, do fine fine Deus :
Et fine fine magis, fi quid magis eft fine fine,

In Christo erga homines conciliatus amor,
Hec qui speraret quis crederet effe futurum?

Ettamen hec hodie terra Britanna legit. quantos in bella Duces! qüo pretulit arma !

Que canit, do quanta prelia dira tuba! Cæleftes acies ! atque in certamine Celum !

Et qua Cæleftes pugna deceret agros ! quantus in ætheriis tollit se Lucifer armis !

Atque ipso graditur vix Michaele minor!

[blocks in formation]

Quantis, & quam funestis concurritur iris

Dum ferus hic stellas protegit, ille rapit! Dum vulsos Montes ceu Tela reciproca torquent,

Et non mortali defuper igne pluunt :
Siat dubius cui se parti concedat Olympus,

Et metuit pugna non supereffe fua.
At fimul in calis Messia insignia fulgent,

Et currus animes, armaque digna Deo,
Horrendumque rota strident, du sæva rotarum

Erumpunt torvis fulgura luminibus;
Et flamma vibrant, & vera tonitrua rauca

Admiftis flammis injonuere Polo :
Excidit attonitis mens amnis, & impetus amnisg

Et cassis dextris irrita Tela cadunt.
Ad pænas fugiunt, & ceu foret Orcuss asylum

Infernis certant candere fe tenebris, ,
Cedite Romani Scriptores, cedite Graii,

Et quos fama recens vel celebravit anus. P.cc quicunque leget tantum ceciniffe putabit

Mzonidem ranas, Virgiliuin culices,

Samuel Barrow, M. D.
