Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion, that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblation and whole burnt-offerings: then shall they lay calves upon thy altars.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

As it was, &c.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy.

And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my iniquities.

A PRAYER FOR LENT.

H God, who by sin art offended, and by pe

AISE up our hearts, O Lord, we beseech

prepare way only

FROM

FOR THE DEAD.

OM the depths I cried out to thee, O Lord:
Lord hear my voice.

Let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my petition.

If thou shalt observe iniquities, O Lord: Lord, who shall endure it.

For with thee is propitiation; and because of thy law I have waited for thee, O Lord.

My soul hath relied on his word: my soul hath hoped in the Lord.

From the morning watch even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.

For with the Lord there is mercy: and with him there is plentiful redemption.

And he himself shall redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Eternal rest give to them, O Lord.

And may perpetual light shine upon them.

Н

OH God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the

faithful, give to the souls of thy servants departed, the remission of all their sins; that, by our pious supplications, they may obtain the pardon they have always desired. Through, &c.

May they rest in peace.

Amen.

Then, if any one be lately dead, may be added the following prayer.

RANT, O God, that while we here lament

G the departure of thy servant, we may ever

remember, that we are most certainly to follow him (or her.) Give us grace to prepare for that last hour by a good life, that we may not be surprised by sudden death, but be ever watching when thou shalt call; that so, with thee, the Spouse, we may enter into eternal glory; Through, &c.

protect thee.

May he send thee help from his sanctuary, and from out of Sion to defend thee.

May he give unto thee according to thy heart's good desire, and confirm all thy counsels that are well-pleasing to him.

Then we will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God will we glory.

May the Lord fulfil all such thy requests; now I know the Lord hath saved his anointed.

He will hear him from his holy heaven: the salvation of his right hand is powerful.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses; but we will call on the name of our Lord.

They are fettered and are fallen; but we have risen and are set upright.

O Lord save the Queen; and hear us in the day we call upon thee.

Glory be to the Father, &c.

Prayer

GOD, by whom kings reign, and the princes of the earth exercise their power; O thou, who art the strength and support of those kingdoms that serve thee; mercifully hear our prayers, and defend thy servant Victoria, our Queen from all dangers; and grant that her safety may conduce to the peace and welfare of thy people. CONCLUSION.

ACCEPT, O most gracious God, this our ser

May the blessing of Almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, descend upon us now, and remain with us for ever. Amen.

THE ANGELICAL SALUTATION,

COMMONLY CALLED THE ANGELUS,

In Catholic countries, the church bells are rung at morn, noon and evening; and on hearing them, most devout persons pause in their occupations and repeat the proper portion for the time of the following prayer to commemorate our Saviour's becoming man for our salvation.

AT MORN: The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary and she conceived of the Holy Ghost. Hail Mary, &c.

AT MID-DAY: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; and may it be done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary, &c.

AT EVENING: And the Word was made flesh; and dwelt among us.

The Prayer.

Hail Mary, &c.

Pour fourth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts; that we to whom the incarnation of Christ thy Son has been made known by the message of an angel, may, by his passion and cross, be brought to the glory of his resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. In paschal time, from Easter Eve till Trinity Sunday, the following Anthem "Regina Cali" is to be said standing, instead of the Angelus. Hail, heavenly Queen, your joy declare, Alleluia. For he whom you deserved to bear, Alleluia.
