ACCEPT, O most gracious God, this our ser

THE ANGELICAL SALUTATION,

COMMONLY CALLED THE ANGELUS,

In Catholic countries, the church bells are rung at morn, noon and evening; and on hearing them, most devout persons pause in their occupations and repeat the proper portion for the time of the following prayer to commemorate our Saviour's becoming man for our salvation.

AT MORN: The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary and she conceived of the Holy Ghost. Hail Mary, &c.

AT MID-DAY: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; and may it be done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary, &c.

AT EVENING: And the Word was made flesh; and dwelt among us.

Pour fourth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts; that we to whom the incarnation of Christ thy Son has been made known by the message of an angel, may, by his passion and cross, be brought to the glory of his resurrection, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen. In paschal time, from Easter Eve till Trinity Sunday, the following Anthem "Regina Cali" is to be said standing, instead of the Angelus. Hail, heavenly Queen, your joy declare, Alleluia.
