ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

23 Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

24 Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

Written from Rome unto the Ephesians by Tychicus. .

"The Epistle of PAUL the Apostle to the

PHILIPPIANS.

CHAP. II. i IIe exhorteth to unity and humility, 12 und to a careful

proceeding in the way of salration. IF F there be any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of

love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus :

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of inen :

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the

cross.

9 Wherefore God also bath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every bame:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And thut every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ és Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 ( Where12 ( Wherefore my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with

your state.

with me.

39 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for

21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

22 But ye know the proof of him, that as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will

go 24. But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to yon Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death : but God had. mercy on him; and not on him only, but on une also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow,

1

28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

99 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation :

30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life to supply your lack of service toward me.

CHAP. IV, 4 General exhortations. 10 His joy for their liberality

towards him, and God's grace in them. THerefore, my brethren, dearly beloved and longed for,

my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.

3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing: but in every thing by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9 Those things which ye have both learned and received, and heard and seen in me, do: and the God of

peace

shall be

with you.

10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the Kk 2

last dir,

ye were

last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.

11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: and every where and in all things I am instructed, both to be full and to be hungry, botlr to abound and to suffer need.

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth nie.

14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my alfliction.

15 Now, ye Philippians, know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.

16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.

17 Not because I desire a gift, but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

18 But I have all, and abound : I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God.

19 But my, God shall supply all your need, according to his riches in glory, by Christ Jesus.

20 Now unto God and our Fatlier be glory for ever and ever.

Amen. o Salute every Saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet yoll.

22 All the saints salute jou, cliefly they that are of Cesar's houshold.

23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. It was written to the P'lilippians from Itome by Epapliro

The First Epistle of PAUL the Apostle to the

CHAP. IV. 1 He exhorteth to go on in godliness, 6 to holiness, 9 to

lore, 11 to quietness, 13 to moderate sorrow for the dead.

17 Of the resurrection, and of the last judgment, WE besecch you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord

Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and

more.

2 For

ye

know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication.

4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles 'wbich know not God:

6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.

7 For God hath not called us unto uncieanness, but unto holiness.

8 He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his Holy Spirit.

9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you : for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

10 And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia : but we beseech you; brethren, that ye increase more and more;

11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands as we com. manded you;

12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are with puit, and that ye may have lack of nothing. 13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, I k3
