How glorious muft that day be when the king of glory fhall be feen by all nations, in Jerufalem, which fhall then be a quiet habitation; where no barbarian is feen; but all speaking one language, and that language a pure one. Paint to yourselves the joy which people receive on any public day, when their deliverer, or commander is prefent; and they ftand approved in his fight. What a rapture were the people in, when in the city-hall at New-York, George Washington was placed in the Presidential Chair; and what shouts rent the air, when Mr. Livingston, in the most feeling manner pronounced these words-" LONG LIVE GEORGE WASHINGTON,"

What joy fills the mind of every friend, when he beholds the king on his coronation day! But what are all these things compared to that time when not a few of one nation, are rejoicing at the fight of a mortal king; but when thousands of all nations under heaven, fhall at the fight of the king eternal, immortal, join their shouts of praise to him that was dead and is alive and lives forever! How muft every heart leap for joy to fee him, who by his fears is known to be the fame who suffered without the gates of Jerufalem many years ago? Efpecially when they know that he has loved them, and washed them from their fins in his own blood, and made them kings and priests, that they may reign with him on the earth.

5. Another thing which will call them to go up to Jerufalem from year to year is, to learn of the king, and to receive his law, to communicate it to others through all the earth.

This is particularly mentioned by the prophets, who fpeak of this glorious event. Ifaiah ii. "And many people fhall go and say, come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the houfe of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths; for out of Zion fhall go forth the law and the word of the Lord from Jerufalem." It is here particularly noticed, that many people fhall go up to Jerufalem, and that they fhall go to be taught the way

of the LORD, that they may learn to walk in his way ;: and it is mentioned, that the law fhall go from Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerufalem.

To prove that this verfe refers to the time of Christ's reign on the earth, we have only to read the next verse, where he is mentioned as the judge among the nations; caufing war to cease throughout all the earth. "And he fhall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people; and they fhall beat their fwords into ploughfhares, and their fpears into pruning-hooks, nation fhall not lift up fword against nation, neither fhall they learn war any more."

When all fubmit to Chrift; they will fubmit to the PRINCE OF PEACE," who fpeaks peace to the heathen; WAR, will then ceafe to the ends of the earth, and all will love as brethren.

6. Another thing the nations will meet for; which is to keep the feaft of TABERNACLES. This is mentioned in Zechariah xiv. 16, "And it fhall come to pass, that every one that is left, of all the nations which came againft Jerufalem, fhall even go up from year to year, to worship the King, the Lord of hofts, and to keep the feast. of TABERNACLES."

In former days, the Jews kept the paffover in booths. feven days; but the feast in the thousand years, will be kept in tabernacles, or tents; for the people will be fo numerous, that they cannot be accommodated any other way. At that time, will that prophecy be fulfilled, in Zechariah viii. 19, "Thus faith the LORD of hosts, the faft of the fourth month, the faft of the fifth, and the faft of the feventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the houfe of Judah, joy and gladness,and cheerful feasts,therefore love the truth and peace." That this prophecy refers ro this annual feast of tabernacles, is plain from what follows in the next verfes, where it is mentioned that people and nations fhall go to feek the Lord of hofts at Jerufalem, and to pray before him.

These things are fufficient to afcertain the facts concerning the bufinefs to be done when all nations meet at Jerufalem, to worship the king, the Lord of hofts, and

to feast on his bounty, fee their brethren, and fing praises to him who was dead, and is alive, and lives forevermore, Amen.

This is but a small account of that meeting of all nations ; but this I think muft convince every believer in Chrift, that fuch a glorious time will come; and O the importance of being diligent to be found of him without fpot, and blameless, that when he fhall appear, we may appear with him in glory.

7. Another thing peculiar to this meeting will be, to fee the union and harmony which will then take place among all nations in refpect to one language which all nations will then speak.

When at the day of Pentecoft every nation heard in their own tongue, wherein they were born, the wonder, ful works of God; while the apostles fpake as the fpirit a gave them utterance, it was a matter of amazement; but what was that to the day when all nations fpeak one language, when no one fhall fpeak in an unknown tongue; when one fhall not be a Barbarian to another?

It is plain from the fcriptures, that there was a vtime when all people on earth spake one language, until God confounded their language, and it is certain that he who confounded the language, can at his pleasure return unto the people a pure language. The account of the peo ple of the earth as to language, when they begun to build the tower of Babel, is worthy of our notice; Genefis xi. 6, 7, 8, 9, "And the LORD faid, behold the people are one, and they have all one language; and this they be gin to do, and now nothing will be reftrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's fpeech. So the Lord fcattered them abroad from thence, upon the face of the earth; and they left off to build the city. name of it called Babel; because the confound the language of all the earth, did the LORD fcatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth."

Therefore is the LORD did there and from thence

Every person who reads this, and believes the fcriptures, may fee the origin of fo many languages now in the world. The Lord did it to reftrain men from an evil purpose which they had imagined.

He who did this has promised, that he will return un to the people a pure language, fo that they may call on the LORD with one confent, and with one mind and one mouth glorify God. This is mentioned in Zephaniah iii, 9, "For then will I turn unto the people a pure language, that they may all call on the name of the LORD to ferve him with one confent." This is fpoken particularly of the Jews, when they fhall have a name and a praise among all people of the earth. See verfe

It may be faid by fome, that this only mentions that a pure language is promifed to the Jews, and that there is no intimation in this verse of all nations speaking one language. True, there is not; but when Ifaiah mentions the refidence of the king of glory among the Jews in Zion, he tells them they fhall not fee a people which they cannot understand; if they understand each other, they will certainly all speak one language. See Isaiah xxxiii. 19, "Thou shalt not fee a fierce people, a people of a deeper fpeech than thou canst perceive, of a stammering tongue that thou canst not understand." I think this paffage, compared with the other, plainly fhews that all nations will at that day speak one language, and in this way how eafy it will be to increafe knowledge throughout all the earth. How will the pleasure of going up to Jerufalem be increafed, while they confider that all will speak the fame thing in the fame language.

It is impoffible for us to defcribe the glory of that time, when for one thousand years all nations, kindred, and tongues, fhall join with one heart, one voice, and one language in praises to the fecond Adam, the king of all the earth, when he fhall "be great unto the ends of the earth," Micah v. 4.

3. I am to notice the refpect which will be fhewn the Jews by other nations, when they meet with the Jews in their land from year to year.

Allowing that fuch a thing fhould take place, that all nations fhall unite with the Jews under the government of their Meffiah, and all own him their common Lord, we must suppose that the other nations will look to the defcendants of Abraham as their fuperiors on many accounts, and that they will call them the feed of the bleffed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.

That the Ifraelites will be greatly refpected by other nations at that time, is plain from the fcriptures of truth. The prophet Ifaiah mentions that the pofterity of those who had formerly afflicted the Jews, fhould, come and bend to them, and bow before them as their fuperiors. See Ifaiah lx. 14, "The fons alfo of them that afflicted thee, fhall come bending unto thee; and all they that defpised thee shall bow themselves down at the foles of thy feet; and they fhall call thee the city ofthe Lord, the Zion of the holy one of Ifrael." Chap. lxi. 5, 6, 9, "And ftrangers fhall ftand and feed your flocks, and the fons of the alien fhall be your plowmen, and your vine dressers ; but ye fhall be named the priests of the Lord; men fhall call you the ministers of our God; ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory fhall ye boaft yourselves.. And their feed fhall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people; all that fee them shall acknowledge them, that they are the feed which the Lord hath bleffed."

What a beautiful description is here given of the manner in which the Jews will be treated by other nations when they are converted to God! Here it is declared, that strangers fhall feed their flocks, be their plowmen, and vine dreffers; and that the Jews fhall be called priefts and ministers of God, that they fhall eat of the riches of the Gentiles, and that they fhall be known among the Gentiles, and every where be acknowledged as the people whom the Lord hath bleifed in a peculiar manner, above all nations on the earth.
