cerning the reft of the beafts, they had their dominion. aken away; yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. I faw in the night vifions, and behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations and languages, fhould ferve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which fhall not pafs away, and his kingdom that which fhall not be destroyed."

Were it needful I might eafily fhew how this prophecy agrees with the others I have mentioned concerning Christ's coming, to destroy the armies which will rife a gainst him, and break all kingdoms in pieces, and be the only king on earth.-I will add a few remarks on this paffage.

1. Daniel represents the ancient of days coming in fire, fo the other places fay, "he fhall be revealed in flaming fire."

2. Daniel fays, a fiery ftream iffued out and came forth from before him,-Zechariah says, his arrows fhall go forth like lightning-Chrift fays, his coming will be like lightning-Here Daniel, Zechariah, and Christ agree, which fhews that they all fpake of one thing.

3. Daniel fays, thoufand thousands miniftered unto him; and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him, the judgment was fet, and the books were opened. Enoch fays, the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his faints-Zechariah fays, he will come and all the faints with thee. Daniel fays, ten thousand times ten thousand ftood before him to be judged; Joel fays, Chrift will bring Gog and his army into the valley of decifion to judge them there. In this, Daniel, Enoch, Zechariah, and Joel all

agree.

4. Daniel fays, the beaft was flain, his body deftroyed and given to the burning flame. Ezekiel fays, of Gog and his army, that they fhall be flain; that they fhall be devoured by the beafts, and given to the fowls of the air.

5. Daniel fays, the rest of the beafts had their domin ion taken away; yet had their lives prolonged for a sho time. John mentions that the great army which comes against Christ after Gog and his army are destroyed, shall be flain, and be feafted upon by the fowls of heaven, after they are flain by the rod of iron, by the fword which cometh out of the mouth of him that fitteth on the horse, and by fire and brimstone from heaven.

6. Daniel fays, that after all this deftruction, the Son of man came with the ANCIENT of days, and that there was given him dominion, glory, and a kingdom, that all 'people, nations, and languages fhould ferve him, and that his dominion fhould laft, and his kingdom never be deftroyed; and that the faints fhould poffefs the kingdom under the whole heaven, and that all dominions fhall ferve, and obey him. John fpeaking of this fame fubject, fays, Revelation xi. 13, 14, 15, "And the fame hour there was a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were flain of men: feven thousand; and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. The fecond woe is paft; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly. And the feventh angel founded, and there were great voices in heaven, faying, the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ, and he fhall reign forever and ever." In what John fays, we may fee an agreement with what Daniel has faid. John fpeaks of the earthquake, the fame which will part the mount of olives; this caufed a tenth part of the city to fall, in which were flain, (this I fuppofe means Rome) feven thousand; the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to God. It was faid woe, woe, woe, to the earth by reafon of the trumpets yet to found. The feventh found, which was the third woe, declared that all kingdoms were owned by Chrift; this must be a glorious event, and it is cried woe; the reafon of it is, because of the great flaughter which will be made among the kings of the earth, and their armies before they will yield to Chrift, who will deftroy all who rise against him; and

put down all rule, authority, and power, and be the Lord alone to be exalted in that day.

9,

There is one thing more to be mentioned, to prove that Christ must appear before all the earth is full of the knowledge of God, and that is, that the man of fin, the myftery of iniquity, will remain on the earth until Chrift appears on the mount of Olives. This is the popish power, which is now fpread into different parts of the world. That city ruleth over the kings of the earth; the old Roman empire is now ftanding, and Roman religion under the name of Chriftianity. The power of Mystery Babylon will be greatly weakened; but it will never be destroyed from the earth until Chrift comes; this Paul has declared, Theffalonians ii. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, "Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day fhall not come, except there come a falling away firft, and that man of fin be revealed, the fon of perdition; who oppofeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; fo that he, as God, fetteth in the temple of God, fhewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that when I was yet with you I told you of these things? And now ye know what withholdeth, that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work; only he who now letteth, will let, until he be taken out of the way; and then fhall that WICKED be revealed, whom the LORD fhall confume with the spirit of his mouth, and fhall deftroy with the brightness of his coming; even him whofe coming is after the working of fatan, with all power, and figns and lying wonders."

It is almoft univerfally acknowlged that the man of fin mentioned here is the Roman goverment, under the Popes, who have called themselves God upon earth. This power, is to be deftroyed by Jefus Chrift at his coming, when he comes with power and great glory. The Roman government, efpecially under the Popes, has been the feat and neft of every kind of wickedness that could be invented, or practised; and this wicked, as it is called, will remain in a great measure until the coming of Chrift; all who practise wickednefs under the name

of religion, will be flain unless they repent and turn to God. Paul fays, Chrift will "confume that wicked, with the fpirit of his mouth, and destroy him with the brightnefs of his coming." This agrees with what John fays, concerning the army that will be destroyed when Chrift comes. The beaft, (this Roman government) and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered themfelves together to make war against him that fat on the horse, and against his army." "All these were flain with the fword which proceedeth out of Chrift's mouth." This is the fame as being confumed with the spirit of his mouth, and destroyed by the brightnefs of his coming." This will be the last war on the earth before the thousand years of peace throughout all the world; in this battle, the greatest part of men on the earth will be flain; efpecially thofe who are called great men, fuch as kings, captains, and mighty men, and fuch as have been leaders in wickednefs. When thofe are deftroyed, wickednefs will be deftroyed with them in a great measure. The remnant which are left of all nations, will be af frighted and give glory to God, and will come to Jerufalem from year to year to worship the Lord Jefus, when Jerufalem fhall be called the city of the great king. Zechariah xiv. 16, "And it fhall come to pafs, that ev ery one that is left, of all the nations that came against Jerufalem, fhall even go up from year to year to wor fhip the king, the Lord of hofts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles." More upon this hereafter.

In this great battle will be included the fall of mystery Babylon, and the harvest of the earth mentioned in Rev elation xiv.

As thofe kings and their armies were led on by Satan, who deceives the nations; immediately after this general flaughter among the wicked inhabitants of the earth, Satan will be bound or prevented from deceiving the world any more for a thousand years. This is mentioned in Revelation xx. 1, 2, 3, "And I faw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomlefs pit, and a great chain in his hand; and he laid hold on the Dragon, that old ferpent, which is the devil, and satan, and bound him a thousand years; and cast him

into the bottomlefs pit, and shut him up, and fet a feal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years fhould be fulfilled, and after this he must be loofed a little feafon." This binding fatan, is mentioned as taking place, after the beaft, the kings, and their armies are destroyed, as every one may fee if he reads the chapter before this. This binding fatan, means his being no more allowed to deceive, or work in the children of difobedience. He will not for one thoufand years, walk about like a roaring lion feeking whom he may devour.

O what an happy day will that be, when no one shall feel a temptation from fatan to difturb their peace for one thousand years! When all these things take place, we fhall fee the accomplishment of this prophecy. Daniel ii. 44, 45, “And in the days of thofe kings, fhall the God of heaven fet up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed; and the Kingdom fhall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces, and confume all these kingdoms, and it fhall ftand forever. Forafmuch as thou faweft that the ftone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brafs, the clay, the filver, and the gold, the great God hath made known to the king what fhall come to pafs hereafter; and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof is fure." This will finish the mystery of God, when the feventh angel fhall found the trumpet of wor to the wicked, and univerfal joy to the faints, Revelation xi. 15, "And the feventh angel founded; and there were great voices in heaven, faying, the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our LORD, and of his Christ; and he shall reign forever and ever."

All this being done, the way will be prepared for Jefus to appear in his kingdom, which is not of this world; but of that world where those who are counted worthy to obtain it—and the refurrection of the dead, are neither married nor are given in marriage, but are equal to the an gels, neither can they die any more.

The way is now prepared to speak of the laft reign of Chrift upon the earth a thousand years, this I fhall attend too in the next fermon.
