IX.

(Te Deum.)

WE praise thee, O God: we acknowledge thee to be the Lord.

All the earth doth worship thee, the Father everlasting.

To thee all angels cry aloud, the heavens, and all the powers therein.

To thee cherubim and seraphim continually do cry:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts!

[ocr errors]

Heaven and earth are full of the majesty of thy glory.

The glorious company of the apostles praise thee.

The goodly fellowship of the prophets praise thee.

The noble army of the martyrs praise thee. The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge thee, O Father of infinite majesty! Day by day we magnify thee!

And we worship thy name ever, world without end.

Vouchsafe, O Lord, to keep us this day with

out sin.

O Lord, have mercy upon us: have mercy upon us.

O Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us, as our trust is in thee.

O Lord, in thee have we trusted : let us never be confounded.

X.

GLORY be to God in the highest, peace on earth, good-will toward men.

Blessed are the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance;

Through the tender mercies of our God, whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us; To give light to them who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet in the way of peace.

There is sprung up a light for the righteous, and joyful gladness for such as are true of heart. Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

Sing unto the Lord, and praise his name: tell of his salvation from day to day.

Let all that seek him rejoice and be glad in him; and let all such as love his salvation say always, The Lord be praised.

XI.

WE praise thee, O God: we worship thee, Creator and Governor of all things.

O Lord God, thou art greatly to be praised, and to be had in reverence of all who draw nigh to thee.

We acknowledge thee, the one living and true God: God in heaven above and earth beneath, and throughout all worlds: there is none beside thee.

We magnify thee, the high and lofty One, who inhabitest eternity.

Thou dwellest in light inaccessible, and full of glory; whom no mortal eye hath seen, or can see. We would worship thee, who art a spirit, in spirit and in truth.

Infinite art thou, O God; thou dwellest not in temples made with hands.

In thee we live, and move, and have our being. All things in heaven and earth are thine: thine is the kingdom, and thou art Lord over all.

Thou art great, and greatly to be feared thy greatness is unsearchable.

Holy art thou, O God: thou art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity: thy countenance regardeth the upright.

We reverence thy name, for thou art holy. Thy truth reacheth to the heavens: justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne.

Just and true are thy ways, O thou King of saints.

Thou art good, and thou doest good continually : every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from thee, the Father of all.

Blessed be the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men.

XII.

WE praise thee, O God: we worship thee, the one true and living God.

Thou art the same, yesterday, to-day, and for ever.

Thou art mighty in wisdom, wonderful in counsel, and excellent in all thy works.

O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all.

Rejoice in the Lord, all ye people: come into his presence with thanksgiving, and be devout and joyful in his service.

We will give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good, and his mercy endureth for ever.

Father of all mercies, we thank thee for thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men. Bless the Lord, O our souls, and forget not all his benefits.

We bless thee for the joyful hope of an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away.

Glory be to God in the highest, on earth peace, good-will to men.

THE END.
