Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.

Father, into thy hands I commend my

spirit.

Truly this was the Son of God.

FOLLOWING AFTER THE SPIRIT OF JESUS.

THE dayspring from on high hath visited us, to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God, in the face of Jesus Christ.

It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man, therefore, that hath heard and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

For

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ;

FOLLOWING AFTER THE SPIRIT OF JESUS. 97

for it is the power of God unto salvation, to every one that believeth.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

The life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God.

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.

The love of Christ constraineth us.

We, being many, are one body in Christ. When thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

In all things showing thyself a pattern of good works.

If

ye

suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye; for Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God.

Speaking the truth in love, may we grow up into him, in all things, which is the head.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith,

and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and jointheirs with Christ.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

For we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

PRAYER AND PRAISE.

ASCRIPTION OF GREATNESS.

THOU, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all things that are

therein, the seas and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

Give unto the Lord, O ye mighty, give unto the Lord glory and strength. Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name.

Who is like unto the Lord our God, who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth?

The Lord reigneth; he is clothed with majesty. The Lord is clothed with strength wherewith he hath girded himself. The world also is established, that it cannot be moved.

ETERNITY OF GOD.

Lord, thou hast been our dwelling-place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. A thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

Of old hast thou laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt en

dure. Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed; but thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom; and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

THE WONDERS OF HIS CREATION.

Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord, my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honor and majesty. Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment; who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters; who maketh the clouds his chariot; who walketh upon the wings of the wind. Who maketh his angels spirits, his ministers a flaming fire; who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed forever.

Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. They go up by the mountains; they go down by the
