And he, bearing his cross, went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha; where they erueified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross; and the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. This title then read many of the Jews; for the place where JESUS was crucified was nigh to the city; and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. EASTER-DAY.

At Morning Prayer, instead of the Psalm, (0 come let us sing, &c.) these anthems shall be sung or said.

The Epistle. 1 St. Peter iii. 17. IT is better, if the will of GOD be that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing. For CHRIST also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, (that he might bring us to GOD) being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the spirit: by which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; which sometime were disobedient, when once the long-ffering of GOD waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing; wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved by water. The like figure whereunto, even Baptism, doth also now save us (not the putting away the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward GOD) by the resurrection of JESUS CHRIST: who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of GOD; angels, and authorities, and powers, being made subject unto him. The Gospel. St. Matt. xxvii. 57. WHEN the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Joseph, who also himself was JESUS' disciple: he went to Pilate, and beg ged the body of JESUS. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen For as in Adam all die; even so cloth, and laid it in his own new in CHRIST shall all be made alive, tomb, which he had hewn out in the 1 Cor. xv. 20.

more dominion over him.

For in that he died, he died unto sin once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin; but alive unto God through JESUS CHRIST our Lord. Rom. vi. 9.
