'Tis thou hast crowned my actions, Lord,
If they succeed, each day,-
This crown, together with myself,
At thy blest feet I lay.

[blocks in formation]

HARK, my soul, it is the Lord
'Tis thy Saviour, hear his word :
Jesus speaks, and speaks to thee,
Say, poor sinner, lov'st thou me ?

66

"I delivered thee when bound;

And when wounded, healed thy wound:
Sought thee wandering,-set thee right,
Turned thy darkness into light.
"Mine is an unchanging love,
Higher than the heights above;
Deeper than the depths beneath,
Free and faithful, strong as death!
"Thou shalt see my glory soon,
When the work of grace is done ;
Partner of my kingdom be!-
Sinner, tell me, lov'st thou me ?"

HYMN 94. P. M.

LORD of mercy and of might!
Of mankind the life and light,
Maker, Teacher infinite,

Jesus, hear and save.

Mighty Monarch, Saviour mild,
Humbled to a mortal child,
Captive, beaten, bound, reviled,
Jesus, hear and save.

Throned above celestial things,
Borne aloft on angels' wings,
Lord of lords, and King of kings,
Jesus, hear and save.

Who shall yet return from high,
Robed in might and majesty,

Hear us, help us,

when we cry!

Jesus, hear and save.

HYMN 95, C. M.

AGAIN the Lord of life and light
Awakes the kindling ray,
Unseals the eyelids of the morn,
And pours increasing day.

Oh, what a night was that, which wrapt
The slumb'ring world in gloom!
Oh what a Sun, which broke this day,
Triumphant from the tomb!

Be man's unbounded homage paid,

Be loud hosannas sung:
Let gladness dwell on evr'y heart,
And praise on ev'ry tongue.

HYMN 96. L. M.

AND do we hope to be with him

Who on the cross resign'd his breath,— Who died a victim, to redeem

His people from the second death? Then should the question oft recur, What do we more than others do? How do we show, that we prefer

The things above to things below?

Where is that holy walk, that suits
The name and character we bear?
And where are seen those heav'nly fruits
That show we're not what once we were?
"Tis thus his people should be found,
As pilgrims on their journey home;
Who cannot rest on earthly ground,
But seek a city yet to come.

*HYMN 97. C. M.

FAITHLESS to my Saviour? never,
Never more I'll be:

He has loved, and loves me ever;
He has died for me!

Often from the fold I wandered;
Griev'd his holy will;

Oft the choicest gifts I squandered,-
But he loved me still!

How the kindest calls I've slighted,
When his Spirit strove!

Hours neglected! mercies blighted!-
Still I had his love!

Lord, I turn to thee-and never,

Never more I'll roam;

Serve thee, soul and spirit, ever,
Till thou bring'st me home.

HYMN 98. L. M.

ANGELS, roll the rock away;
Death, yield up thy mighty prey;
See, he rises from the grave,
Rises Conqueror, to save.

'Tis the Lord! ye seraphs raise
Your eternal songs of praise;
Let the earth's remotest bound
Hear the joy-inspiring sound!
Lift, ye saints, lift up your eyes,
Now to glory see him rise:
Hosts of angels on the road
Hail and sing th' incarnate God!
Heav'n unfolds its portals wide;
Gracious Saviour, thro' them ride;
King of Glory, mount thy throne;
Boundless empire is thine own.

HYMN 99. C. M.

JERUSALEM, my happy home,
A name so dear to me!
When shall my labours have an end
In joy and peace, and thee?

When shall these eyes thy heav'n-built walls
And pearly gates behold?
Thy bulwarks, with salvation strong,
And streets of shining gold?

O when, thou city of my God,

Shall I thy courts attend,

Where heaven's assemblies never part,

And sabbaths never end?

There happier bowers than Edens bloom,

Nor sin, nor sorrow know:

Blest seats! thro' rude and stormy scenes 1 onward press to you.

HYMN 100. L. M.

Lo! for us the wilds are glad,
All in cheerful green array'd;
Op'ning sweets they all disclose,
Bud and blossom as the rose.

Hark! the wastes have found a voice,
Lonely deserts now rejoice,
Gladsome hallelujahs sing,
All around with praises ring.
Lo! abundantly they bloom,
Lebanon is hither come;

Carmel's stores the heavens dispense,
Sharon's fertile excellence.

May these barren souls of ours
Bloom, and put forth fruits and flowers,
Flowers of Eden, fruits of grace,
Peace, and joy, and righteousness.

HYMN 101. L. M.

IMMOVEABLE Our hope remains; Within the veil our anchor lies; Jesus, who washed us from our stains, Shall bear us safely to the skies. Strong in his strength,--we boldly say, For us Immanuel shed his blood! Who then shall tear our shield away, Or part us from the love of God?—

Not tribulation, nor distress,

Nor pain, nor persecution's sword, Nor Satan rob us of our peace,

Or

prove too mighty for the Lord.
