Grant that we may cast away the works of darkness and put upon us the armour of light.

Thou wast born in a low estate of

a poor but holy Virgin.

Grant that we, being regenerate and made the Children of God, by

adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit.

Thou wast circumcised and baptized as the appointed Saviour of Jew and Gentile.

Grant us the true circumcision and baptism of the spirit, that, our hearts and all our members being mortified from all carnal and worldly lusts, we may in all things obey thy blessed will.

To be read during the time of Lent.

For our sakes Thou didst fast forty days and forty nights and wast afterwards led u of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

Give us grace to use such abstinence, that, our flesh being subdued to the Spirit, we may ever obey thy godly motions in righteousness and true holiness to thy honour and glory.

Thou didst suffer insults

Thou didst rise triumphantly from the grave, and didst open to us the gate of everlasting life.

We humbly pray that as, by thy special grace preventing us, Thou dost put into our minds good desires, so by thy continual help we may bring the same to good effect.
