Lord, unworthy of the least of all thy mercies. Deliver us from every wrong impression of our own deserts, from every wish that others may overvalue us, and from every disguise or artifice which would lead them or ourselves to do so. Deliver us from grudging our neighbour the kind gifts of thy Providence, from all settled abhorrence of his person, and especially from every malignant attempt to do him injury: and for as much as thou hast taught us that all our doings without charity are nothing worth, deliver us from every uncharitable feeling towards others, from every unfriendly act, and from every unkind word. From all blindness of heart; from pride, vain glory, and

hypocrisy; from envy, hatred, and malice, and all uncharitableness,

Reader and Congregation.

Good Lord, deliver us.

Deliver us from all those carnal sins, by which we quickly lose thy favour and grace; from all that uncleanness of conduct which man would excuse, but to which thou hast attached such swift destruction of body and soul. Deliver us from unchaste language, impure imaginations, and the desire of unbecoming dress. Deliver us from every offence against Thee, of whatever kind or degree it may be ; from all the empty pomps and

Reader and Congregation.

Good Lord, deliver us.

Reader.

From lightning and tempest; from plague, pestilence and famine;

from battle, and murder, and from all violent, untimely, instantaneous, and unexpected deaths,

Reader and Congregation.

Good Lord, deliver us.

Reader.

Grant that, agreeably to thy will, we may submit to every ordinance of man. Deliver us from pernicious and cruel ambition, producing seditious sentiments and language, producing secret combinations with others against the State, and leading on to open and declared rebellion. Deliver us from erroneous opinions in that religion which we venerate and love, from a perverse, selfish, or vain glorious

separation from others in faith or communion. Above all, deliver us from that rebellion which is most destructive to our souls; the opposition of our nature to the doctrines and precepts of thy word;-an avowed or hidden contempt of thy promises, threatenings, admonitions, and commandments.

Reader and Congregation.

Good Lord, deliver us.

To be read about Advent.
