NOTICE.

The undisputed claim of the "YOUNG GENTLEMAN'S BOOK" to a very extended shure of literary and public patronage, induced the compilation of the present Volume, entitled "MY DAUGHTER'S Book," intended by the Editor as a presentation to his fair country

women.

The paramount object of the Work will be sufficiently apparent to well-directed minds, and can need no detailed particulars:—in a word, to obviate any misconception, it was compiled with a view to advance the moral and intellectual culture of that sex which was evidently intended by the Creator to consummate the happiness of society, and the chief, if not the noblest ornament of our polished homes and unpolluted firesides.

Whether or not, in this sincere attempt, the Editor may one day have the assurance of believing he has succeeded, he yet feels it to be his privilege to "hope the best." His object is not reward," or if it be, it must be the reward consequent on having rendered himself useful.
