ly be praised. Verfe 16. And there fhall be an Handful of Corn in the Earth upon the Top of the Mountains; the Fruit thereof shall bake like Lebanon, and they of the City hall flourish like Grafs of the Earth. By an Handful of Corn in the Earth, or upon the Top of the Mountains, muft undoubtedly be meant the Saints, who now are, and in the Beginning of that Day will appear to be but few: Yet no fooner is the Spirit poured down, in the Effufion of it, upon them, but they fhall increase into a great Multitude, fignified by the Fruit which fall hake like Lebanon, and then fhall they flourish in their Souls, like the Grafs of the Earth. Verfe 17. His Name fhall endure for ever: And Men fhall be blessed in him all Nations fall call him blessed. This cannot be apply'd to any meer Creature; it is in Chrift only that Men are and fhall be bleffed, it is his Name that endures for ever; and all Nations fhall call him bleffed, by their afcribing all the Glory that is due to him for what he hath done for them, and then will beftow upon them, when all Nations fhall own him for their Lord and King. Again, Pfalm cii. 13. Thou shalt rife and have mercy upon Zion, for the Time to favour her, yea the fet Time is come. This proves that there is a fet Time, when thefe and all the Latter Day Prophefies are to be fulfilled; and alfo that the Time when the Lord fhall favour Zion will begin upon the Firft Breakang forth of that Spiritual Glory. Then it is that the Saints fhall take pleasure in ber Stones, and favour the Duft of Zion's Walls, ver. 14. This must be taken under a fpiritual Confideration.

Then the Heathen hall fear the Name of the Lord, and all the Kings of the Earth bis Glory, ver. 15.

Sure

Sure this Time is yet to come! For when was it that the Heathen, with all the Kings of the Earth, did fear the Name of the Lord? If fome fay that the Heathen's fearing the Name of the Lord may be referred to the Difpenfation of the Gospel, or the Converfion of the Gentiles; yet it is certain that all Kings of the Earth do not, nor yet to this day fear the Name of the Lord; bleffed beGod that there is, and hath been fome: But in the Kingdom of Chrift all Kings of the Earth fhall fear the Lord. In this Time it is that the Lord fhall build up Zion, more glorious than ever yet fhe hath appeared in the World; and then he will give a full manifeftation of his Love unto the Saints. Verfe 16. For the Lord will look down from the Heighth of his Sanctuary, even from Heaven, to behold the Earth: That he may bear the Groaning of his Prifo ners, and loofe thofe Saints that were appointed to Death; that they may declare the Name of the Lord Jehovah our Righteousness in Zion, and the Glory of his Praife in Ferufalem: When the People out of all Nations fhall be gathered together, and the Kingdoms of the Earth to worship the Lord, ver. 19, 20. gain, in Ifaiah xi. fee feveral Verfes do fhew what a wonderful Change there will be in the Beginning of this fpiritual Glory, upon all other Creatures as well as the Saints; when the Wolf fhall dwell with the Lamb, and the Leopard ball lie down with the Kid The Cow and the Bear fhall feed, and their Toung without any Difference lie down together; and alittle Child, without Harm, fhallplay on the Hole of the Adder's Den. There frall be none to burt or to defroy in all his holy Mountain, when the Earth fall le full of the Knowledge of the Lord, as the Waters ce

ver the Sea, v. 6, 7, 8. Now the Glory here prophetically fpoke of, I look upon will begin to have its fulfilment on the Saints, with the other Creatures, when the Spirit of God fhall be poured down both on the Jews and Gentiles, in their Converfion; but will not attain unto its Perfection until the Perfonal Coming of the Lord Jefus Chrift: For this is an undeniable Truth, that the Glory expreffed in one and the fame Prophecy, hath oftentimes a refpe&t one Part of it unto one, when the other Part hath a peculiar relation unto another Time. And now I am upon this, I fhall give you three ScriptureInftances for Proof, that we may not mistake in the Expofition of thefe Prophetical Texts. The Firft I fhall take notice of is in Foel ii. 28. And it fhall come to pass afterwards that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all Flesh; and your Sons and Daughters fhall propbefy, &c. And I will fhew Wonders in Heaven, and in Earth Blood and Fire and Pillars Smoke: The Sun fhall be turned into Darkness, and the Moon into Blood, before the terrible Day of the Lord comes, v.20. Do we not here fee that Part of this Prophecy had its fulfilment in the Apoftolical Day, it being made mention of by the Apoftle Pe ter, in the Second of the As, when the Spirit of God was fo wonderfully poured down upon them? But who is it that dare fay the whole of this Prophecy was then fulfilled? Doth not the greateft part thereof remain yet to have its accomplishment? Certainly it doth. Again, look into the 24th of Matthey, where we may obferve and fee how our Lord intermixes his Difcourfe concerning the DeAtruction of Ferufalem, his Second Coming, with the Signs of it, and the End of the World; as if it had

been

been one and the fame continued Relation of that great Day of the Lord; whereas it is moft certain that one Part refpects the difmal Calamity which was to come upon the Jews; and the other Part unto the Time of his Second Coming from Heaven. Here is another Text very full for this, Zech. ix. 9, 10. Rejuice greatly, O Daughter of Zion; fhout, O Daughter of Jerufalem: Behold thy King cometh unto thee: He is juft and having Salvation, lowly, and riding upon an Afs, and upon a Colt the Foal of an Afs. None can deny but that thefe Words hold forth the First Coming of Christ in the State of his Humiliation: Yet fee the following Words; And I will cut off the Chariot from Ephraim, and the Horfe from Jerufalem; and the Battle-bow fhall be cut off, and be fhalt fpeak Peace unto the Heathen: And bis Dominion fhall be from Sea even to Sea, and from the River even to the End of the Earth. Now doth not this exprefs the Glory, Coming, Kingdom, and Reign of Chrift, over the whole World, and that both in the Firft and Second Branch of it, as plain as Words can be expreffed? Then it muft be granted that one Part of the fame Prophecy hath a respect unto the Firft, when the other Part hath a refpect unto Chrift's Second Coming. Now if here be not a right Diftinction made in the Opening of these Prophefies, we fhall, inftead of making plain, confound the Truth: And therefore I would (according to my Light) make fome Remark upon thefe Places, where the Kingdom of Chrift is afferted, as they fall in my Way. Upon this accouut it is, or at leaft this is one Reafon that the Jewish Church overlooked the First Coming of Chrift in his Humiliation, and referred the Prophefies

Prophefies wholly unto his Coming in Glory. Nay, the Difciples (when Chrift was perfonally prefent With them) were not altogether free from this, as appears from what Peter faid (when our Lord fpake of his Sufferings) This fhall not be unto thee. And as they were in a Fault then, by overlookingChrift's Sufferings, fo are many of God's Children in the Fault now, by overlooking Chrift's Glory in his Kingdom And fo refer all thofe Texts relating to this Time, either to the Difpenfation of the Gof pel, or else to a State in the Eternal Heavens. But to return again to the Confideration of this Eleventh of Ifaiah, v. 10. And in that Day there hall be a Root of Feffe, which shall ftand for an Enfign of the People: To it fhall the Gentiles feek, and his Reft fhall be glorious. This Root of Jesse must be understood of Chrift, in refpect of his Human Nature; the Enfign may refpect the Difplay of Divine Grace, which now is by the Gospel, and in the great Day of the Spirit will more eminently be held forth, for the People out of all Nations to gather unto it. Then will the Reft of Chrift appear to be wonderful and glorious. Verfe 11. And it Thall come to pass in that Day, that the Lord fhall fet his hand again the fecond time, to recover the remnant of his People which fall be left, from Affyria, and. from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cufb, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Harmath, and from the Ilands of the Sea. That Day here fpoke of I look upon to be yet to come; the Time when the Spirit of God fhall be poured out upon all Flesh; then will the Lord fet his hand again the second time to recover bis People; which fhews that as the Lord did appear to bring Ifrael out of Egypt, fo he will

appear
