2 Arise, and be baptized,
And wash thy sins away:

Thy league with God be solemnized,
Thy faith avouch'd to-day.

Our heavenly country now,
Our Lord and Master, thine,
Receive imprinted on thy brow
His passion's awful sign.

No more thine own, but Christ's,-
With all the saints of old,
Apostles, seers, evangelists,
And martyr throngs enroll'd,-
In God's whole armour strong,
Front hell's embattled powers:
The warfare may be sharp and long,
The victory must be ours.

O bright the conqueror's crown,
The song of triumph sweet,
When faith casts every trophy down

At our great Captain's feet.

The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth [C.M.
us from all sin.-1 John i 7

1 FOR ever here my rest shall be,
Close to thy bleeding side;
This all my hope and all my plea,
For me the Saviour died.

2 My dying Saviour and my God,
Fountain for guilt and sin,
Sprinkle me ever with thy blood,
And cleanse and keep me clean.

3 Wash me, and make me thus thine own,
Wash me, and mine thou art:

Wash me, but not my feet alone ;

My hands, my head, my heart.

4 The atonement of thy blood apply,
Till faith to sight improve;
Till hope in full fruition die,
And all my soul be love.

Catechism: Hymns for Children.

"STEADFAST IN FAITH, JOYFUL THROUGH HOPE, AND ROOTED IN CHARITY."

404 The children crying in the temple, and saying, [C.M. Hosanna to the Son of David.--Matt. xxi. 15.

1 HOSANNA! raise the pealing hymn
To David's Son and Lord;
With Cherubim and Seraphim
Exalt the incarnate Word.

2 Hosanna! Lord, our feeble tongue
No lofty strains can raise :
But thou wilt not despise the young,
Who meekly chant thy praise.

3 Hosanna! Sovereign, Prophet, Priest,
How vast thy gifts, how free!
Thy blood, our life; thy word, our feast;
Thy name, our only plea.

4 Hosanna! Master, lo, we bring

Our offerings to thy throne;

Not gold, nor myrrh, nor mortal thing,
But hearts to be thine own.

5 Hosanna! once thy gracious ear
Approved a lisping throng;
Be gracious still, and deign to hear
Our poor but grateful song.

6 O Saviour, if, redeem'd by thee,
Thy temple we behold,
Hosannas through eternity
We'll sing to harps of gold."

AN INFANT'S MORNING HYMN.

405 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under [C.M. his wings shalt thou trust.-Ps. xci. 4.

1 THE morning bright with rosy light
Has waked me from my sleep;
Father, I own thy love alone
Thy little one doth keep.

2 All through the day, I humbly pray,
Be thou my guard and guide;
My sins forgive, and let me live,
Lord Jesu, near thy side.

3 0 make thy rest within my breast,
Great Spirit of all grace;
Make me like thee, then shall I be
Prepared to see thy face.

AN INFANT'S EVENING HYMN.

406 He shall gather the lambs with his arm, and [8s. 7s. carry them in his bosom.-Isa. xl. 11.

1 JESU, tender Shepherd, hear me,
Bless thy little lamb to-night;
Through the darkness be thou near me,
Keep me safe till morning light.

2 Through this day thy hand has led me,
And I thank thee for thy care;
Thou hast warm'd me, clothed and fed mo,
Listen to my evening prayer.

3 Let my sins be all forgiven,

Bless the friends I love so well;
Take me, when I die, to heaven,
Happy there with thee to dwell.m

407 God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.-Gal. iv. 6. 1 GREAT God, and wilt thou condescend To be my Father and my friend; I a poor child, and thou so high, The Lord of earth, and air, and sky ? 2 Art thou my Father? canst thou bear To hear my poor imperfect prayer? Or wilt thou listen to the praise That such a little one can raise ? 3 Art thou my Father? let me be A meek, obedient child to thee; And try in word, and deed, and thought, To serve and please thee as I ought. 4 Art thou my Father? then at last, When all my days on earth are pass'd, Send down and take me in thy love To be thy better child above.

408 Jesus called a little child unto him.—Matt. xviii. 2. [7s. 1 GENTLE Jesu, meek and mild, Look upon a little child;

Pity my simplicity,

Suffer me to come to thee.

2 Fain I would to thee be brought;
Dearest Lord, forbid it not;
Give me, dearest Lord, a place
In the kingdom of thy grace.
3 Lamb of God, I look to thee;
Thou shalt my example be;
Thou art gentle, meek, and mild,
Thou wast once a little child.

4 Loving Jesu, gentle Lamb,
In thy gracious hands I am;
Make me, Saviour, what thou art,
Live thyself within my heart.

He shall be filled with the Holy Ghost.
Luke i. 15.

COME, Holy Spirit, come;

O hear an infant's prayer:

[S.M.

Stoop down, and make my heart thy home,

And shed thy blessing there.

Thy light, thy love impart,
And let it ever be

A holy, humble, happy heart,
A dwelling-place for thee.
Let thy rich grace increase,
Through all my early days,

The fruits of righteousness and peace,
To thine eternal praise.*

Who hath despised the day of small things?
Zech. iv. 10.

1 LITTLE drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the beauteous land.
2 And the little moments,
Humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages
Of eternity.

3 Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,

Make our earth an Eden,
Like the heaven above.

4 So our little errors

Lead the soul astray
From the paths of virtue
Into sin to stray.

5 Little seeds of mercy,

Sown by youthful hands,
Grow to bless the nations
Far in heathen lands.
