quence of obduracy, disobedience, and disbelief in their Redeemer, have been wanderers upon earth, and though not slain, yet (in confirmation of the words of the prophecy, scattered amongst the nations) shall, by the voice of God, be recalled from these devious paths; and they, with repentant Infidels, Turks, and Heretics, shall be received into one fold under one Shepherd, Jesus Christ, our common Saviour and our God.

To inquire, at this period, how far the exertions of many pious men, which are now directed to the conversion of the Jews, may answer a purpose in itself praiseworthy, would be to scrutinize too far the designs of heaven. By the translation of the New Testament from the original Greek into the Hebrew tongue, they have undoubtedly adopted the most probable means of causing it to be generally read and understood amongst the Jews; and young persons of their persuasion have, with much discretion, been appointed to explain, and to enforce its doctrines. But, whether the unparalleled

obduracy of that infatuated people may not refuse to yield to any interposition, except the influence of God's holy Spirit, whether their conversion may not be the effect of sudden, miraculous interposition, it is not given to us to ascertain. Sufficient is

it for us to understand that the event itself is certain, and that the Jews will hereafter look with reverence "on him whom they have pierced!" Enough it is for us to know that the blood (shed by them upon the cross) will be accepted as a propitiation, not for our transgressions only, but for their numerous sins; and suffice it for us to anticipate their ultimate acceptance with eager joy, and generous expectation.

Such sentiments of christian love can alone excite us to believe in, and to hail, that blessed era, when the ark,-long tossed upon the waves, shall be raised, and secured, on the top of the holy mount; when all nations whom the Lord hath made, shall flow into it, and worship God, when His name shall be one, and His kingdom universal. When the temple of the Lord

shall be most extensively enlarged; when all the human race shall become visible members of it, and from being only a little flock, shall thus comprehend the children of Israel in union with all the other nations of the earth; and "a little one shall become a thousand; and "the light, which lightens the Gentiles, shall be the glory of the people of Israel."

Then will the kingdom of Christ be indeed established upon earth! I say not with the Millenarians (nor do I wish you to believe) that Christ will at that time reign visibly upon earth during a thousand years; but assuredly his spiritual dominion will be confirmed and extended without any limitation. Doubtless, therefore, "there

shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots." "And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.' "'* Then will be thoroughly explained the meaning of these prophetic words, “I have set my King upon my holy hill of Sion." To Him, God the Father hath said, "thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Desire of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thine inheritance; and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession."

feel no interest in an event, in which they may not have an immediate concern, let them recollect that patriarchs and prophets have yearned to see that day, and angels have hailed its first dawn with exultation! In one incident, (which will follow the establishment of this kingdom of righteousness) all of us have a concern, important and awakening beyond man's imagination to conceive, I mean the resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment of all, who were ever born! For, with these awful circumstances the second advent of the Son of God will infallibly be attended! Do any here present entertain a doubt of this indisputable fact? Let them learn its certainty from the hopes of others at seasons when conscience speaks without restraint. them listen to, and derive conviction from, the aspirations of the devout, and from the yearnings of the unfortunate after that future state, whence sorrow and mourning shall flee away;-Where the wicked shall cease from troubling, and the weary shall be at rest!
