fulness, and gratitude for the many favors which by thy goodness I every day meet with; and give me grace, that while I am able I may never turn away my face from any poor man, that thy face, and the light of thy counte-nance, may never be turned away from me. O Lord my God, whatever I have prepared for the poor, cometh of thee, and of thine own, do I give thee. Pardon all my vain expences, and teach me to husband the riches which are entrusted to me, that I may always have wherewith to offer a testimony of my duty to my great benefactor; to be bestowed on such poor people as thy good providence shall direct to me for relief. And the good Lord direct my hand, that I may give where there is most need; and after such a way as shall most please thee. Give a blessing to what I distribute, that it may do thy poor good, and that they may own thy hand in it. And grant, O Lord, if it should ever be thy good pleasure to change my circumstances, into a lower condion, that I may bear it patiently, believing

assuredly that I have a treasure in heaven, to which place, I most humbly beseech thee, to bring me and my family, for the sake of Jesus. Christ..... Amen.

A Morning Prayer for a Husband and Wife.

O God, by whose favor and providence we are made one flesh, look mercifully upon us from heaven, and bless us, and make us instumental to the eternal happiness of each other. Give us grace, that we may faithfully perform our marriage vows, that we may live in perfect peace and love together, in a conscientious obedence to thy laws, and in a comfortable prospect of happiness all our days. Grant if it be thy gracious will, that we may live to see our children christianly and virtuously brought up; or, if in thy wisdom, thou shalt order it otherwise, be pleased in mercy, to provide for their everlasting happiness. In the mean time, give us grace, that we may teach them and our household, the fear of God, and be examples to them of piety and true re ligion.

Continue to us such a share of the good things of this life as to thee seems most meet for us and whatever our condition shall be, enable us to be content and thankful. Vouchsafe us a share of the happiness of the next life, and thy blessed will be done, for what shall happen to us in this. Hear us O God,

for Jesus Christ's sake, the son of thy love..... Amen.

Amen.

A prayer for such as desire to be instructed in the christian religion.

This

Great God, have pity on me, for I am in distress, and fear for myself. I have been convinced that I shall live forever after I leave this world, either in happiness or misery. gives me great uneasiness, when I consider what is to become of me when I die. My own conscience accuseth me of having done many things which I know must greatly displease thee. I find myself inclined to do evil. epntinually, and I know not how to help it; so that my fears increase upon me daily.

Thy people assure me that thou art good and merciful to such as call upon thee in their distress, and that for the sake of Jesus Christ,

thy beloved Son, thou wilt pardon sinners and receive them into favour.

In confidence of this, I beseech thee to pity my distressed condition, and deliver me from the ignorance and fears I labour under. Cause me to know thee and thy Son Jesus Christ more perfectly; and teach me how I must live so as to please thee: reward the endeavours of such as are so kind as to instruct me.

Give me an understanding heart, a tractable temper, and an obedient will, that I may thankfully use the means which thou hast ordained for my salvation. Defend me from the power and malice of evil spirits, which may strive to hinder my conversion.

These blessings I beg for the sake of thy beloved Son Jesus Christ.-Amen. Amen.

The following very useful remarks and prayers made by the Rev. Bishop, might with advantage, be used, every day before and after reading the scriptures. It is here supposed that all the christian members of our church, set apart some small portion of each day, to the careful reading of the Bible. Our church has wisely and judiciously appointed certain parts of the scripture to be read each day in the year: if the directions given in our book of common prayer be observed, we shall regularly every year, read over all the interesting and useful chapters of our blessed Bible: the most important parts will be read over much more frequently. I know of no plan, better than that laid down in the prayer book. Let one member of the family each morning, at the most convenient time, take up the Bible, and read the lessons for the day to the others. One half hour will usually suffice, (and how can an half hour be better spent.) Let them at the same

time, read one or more of these short prayers
