There is not a word in my tongue, but thou knowest it altogether.

Ps. Bow down thine ear O Lord, hear me, for I am poor and needy.

Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwelleth in the heavens.

Behold as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress, so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

Be merciful unto me O Lord, for I cry unto thee daily. O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee.

Let my prayer come before thee, incline thine ear untò my cries.

Nevertheless, in a contrite heart and humble spirit, let us be accepted.

And now we follow thee with all our heart, we fear thee and seek thy face.

Put us not to shame, but deal with us after thy loving kindness, and according to the multitude of thy mercies.

For thou Lord art good, and ready to forgive; and plentious in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

O Lord rebuke me not in thy wrath, neither chastise me in thy hot displeasure.

Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me O Lord; let thy loving kindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

For innumerable evils have compassed me about ; mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more in number than the hairs of my head, therefore my heart faileth me.

If thou Lord, should be extreme to mark what is done amiss, who should abide it.

Have mercy upon me O God, according to thy loving kindness, according to the multitude of thy tender mercies; blot out my transgressions.

Ps. For I acknowledge my transgression, and my sin is ever before me,

Against thee, thee only have I sinned and done this evil in thy sight, that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and clear when thou judgest.

O God, thou knowest my foolishness and my sins are not hid from thee.

Behold O Lord, I am vile, what shall I answer thee. I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

Mine eye seeth thee, wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

I have said to corruption, thou art my father, to the worm, thou art my mother and my sister.

My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.

O God make me to know my transgression and sin. Ps. xix 12. Cleanse thou me from my secret faults. Prayer of Manasses..

My transgressions O Lord, are multiplied, and I am not worthy to behold and see the height of heaven, for the multitude of mine iniquities. I am bowed down with many iron bands, that I cannot lift up mine head, neither have any release, for I have provoked thy wrath and done evil before thee; I did not thy will, neither kept I thy commandments; I have set up abominations, and have multiplied offences. Now therefore, I bow the knee of mine heart, beseeching of thee grace. I have sinned O Lord, I have sinned, and I acknowledge mine iniquities; wherefore. I humbly beseech thee to forgive; O Lord forgive me, and destroy me not with mine iniquities. Be not angry with me forever, by reserving evil for me, neither condemn me into the lower parts of the earth; for thou art God, even the God of them that repent, and in me thou wilt shew all thy goodness; for thou wilt save me that am unworthy,

according to thy great mercy; therefore, I will praise thee forever, all the days of my life, for all the powers of the heavens do praise thee, and thine is the glory forever and forever.....Amen.

The Publican and Pharisee.

Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a publican, the other a pharisee.

The pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself; God I thank thee that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican, I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I pos

And the publican standing afar off, would not so much as lift his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, Saying God be merciful to me a sinner.

Verily said the Saviour, this man went way justified rather than the other.

The following was the saying and confession of the venerable patriarch Jacob.

"O Lord, I am not worthy of the least of thy bles sings."

Very humble also is the confession of patient and righteous Job.

"If I be wicked woe unto me, but if I be righteous, ~ yet will I not lift up my head; I am full of confusion, therefore see thou mine affliction.
