Ps. x 4. The wicked through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God. God is not in all his thoughts.

God complains that they do not call upon him.

Isaih xliii 22. Thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob, thou hast been weary of me, O Israel, &c.

James iv 2. Ye have not, because ye ask not.

Hosea vii 7. There is none among them that callethi upon me.

Ver. 14. They have not cried unto me when they howled upon their beds.

They are hypocrites in religion.

Ezek. xxxiii 31. With their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after covetousness.

Mat. xv 8. This people draweth nigh unto me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

xxiii 14. Woe unto you hypocrites, for ye devour widow's houses, and for a pretence make long prayers.

Ps. cxxviii 37. Their heart was not right with God. Isaih xxix 13. The wicked draw nigh with their lips only.

God threatened that he will leave them to themselves, that he will not hear their prayers.

2 Chron. xv 21. The Lord is with you while ye be with him; and if ye seek him he will be found of you; if you forsake him he will cast you off forever.

xxiv 20. Because ye have forsaken the Lord, he hath forsaken you.

Ezra viii 2. God's power and wrath is against all that forsake him.

My spirit shall not always strive with men.

Ps. cix 7. The prayer of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord.

Pro. i 27. When distress and anguish cometh, then shall they call upon me but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me.

For they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord.

Your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

God alone can teach us how, and give us the heart

to pray.

John vi 44. No man can come unto me except the Father draw him.

Pro. The preparation of the heart in man, as well as the answer of the tongue, is from God.

Ps. x 17. And thou wilt prepare thine heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear.

Ps. Quicken us O Lord, and we will call upon thy

Rom. viii 26. The spirit helpeth our infirmities, for we know not what to pray for as we ought, but the spirit maketh intercession for us, with groanings that cannot be uttered.

Ps. cxxx 3. Turn us again O God, and cause thy face to shine upon us, and we shall be saved.

Promises of God to all his faithful children, in all their trials and distresses, and difficulties.

Isaih xli 10. Fear thou not, for I am with thee, be not dismayed, I am thy God.

xlii 16. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight.

Mat. vi 30. The very hairs of your head are numbered. Isaih Ixi 14. Fear not, I will help thee, saith the Lord our Redeemer.

Pro. iii 6. In all thy ways acknowledge the Lord, and he will direct thy steps.

Phill, iv 12. Every where and in all things saith the Apostle, I am instructed.

Isaih xxx 11. Thine ears shall hear a voice behind thee, saying this is the way, walk ye in it when ye turn to the right, or when ye turn to the left.

Ps. xxv 9. The meek will he guide in judgment, and the meek will he teach his way.

John xvi 13. The spirit of truth shall guide you into all truth.

xxxvii 23. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

xl 29. He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

Isaih x 31. They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.

Ps. Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, he shall strengthen thine heart.

1 Cor. x 13. God will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able to bear.

Isaih xli 13. I the Lord, will hold thee by the right hand, saying unto thee fear not, for I will help thee.

Ps. He shall give his angels charge over thee, to deliver thee in all thy ways.

There is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. Rejoice that your names are written in

Luke x 20.

Pro. xii 21.

There shall no evil happen to the just.

The following are very suitable passages with which to introduce our devotions.

And Abraham answered and said, " Behold now I have taken it upon me to speak unto the Lord, who am but dust and ashes."

And David the king, came and set before the Lord and said who am I O Lord God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hither?

Job. O that I knew where I might find him, that I might come even to his seat.

I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

Lamentations. Let us lift up our hearts with our hands unto God into the heavens.

Baruch ii 16. O Lord look down from thine holy house and consider us; bow down thine ear to hear us.

Daniel ix 18. We do not present our supplications unto thee for our righteousness, but for thy great merdes.

iii 16. Nevertheless, in a contrite heart and an humble spirit let us be accepted.

Ps. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy hands, the moon and stars which thou hast ordained, I what is man, that thou art mindful of him, or the son of man, that thou visitest him.
