We have not confessed our sins with such lowly, penitent and obedient hearts as we should have done.

We have not praised thee for all the daily mercies, for all the wonderful blessings we receive at thy hands, with warm and thankful hearts.

We have not implored thy grace and strength, as such weak and needy creatures ought to do.

Nevertheless O God, withhold not thy favours, pardon our coldness, and that we have not prayed and lived as we ought to do.

O God, we would endeavour even now to praise thee, and glorify thy goodness. We would bless thee O God, for setting apart this holy day to keep up the knowledge and remembrance of thee, and of our creation and redemption.

We bless thee and thank thee for thy holy word; that thou hast not, in the affair cf eter. nity, left us to the uncertainty of our own rea.

son.

We bless thee for having appointed ministers of the gospel to explain the truths of reli gion, to encourage and exhort us to holiness..

We bless thee for the gift of thy holy spirit, which is the author of all good thoughts, all holy desires and just actions which we feel or perform.

O Grant us abundant measures of this spirit; may we never grieve it by our evil actions; may it never leave us or forsake us.

Give us leave O God, to mention before thee the death of thy Son, and the infinite blessing's we have received thereby. Add this to all thy favours, we beseech thee, that we may never forget these mercies, never cease to be thankful for them, but that we may preserve the remembrance of them in the manner he hath ordained.

Make us truly sensible of that love which brought him down from heaven, and how sad our condition was which required such a sacrifice.

May we learn by his patience, humility, selfdenial and resignation, what virtues are most acceptable to thy divine majesty.

May we know him as the way, the truth and the life; and may we know no other among men, than Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

May the exercises of this day be beneficial to our souls; may they prepare us for the duties of the week. Give us leave to put our selves under thy protection this night, watch over us during our slumbers, raise us up in the morning with renewed strength and spirits, to perform our several duties.

Thus may we close each evening of our lives, till the night of death draws nigh, when we beseech thee to take our souls into thy paternal bosom.

Grant this, and all ether blessings for Jesus Christ's sake.

A Prayer for a Birth Day, or New Year's
Day.

"And Pharoah said unto Jacob how old art "thou ?"

"And Jacob said unto Pharoah, the days of "the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred " and thirty years: few and evil have the days of my life been."

"O Lord so teach us to number our days, "that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

"Tis greatly wise to meditate on our past hours; And ask them what report they bore to heaven; *And how they might have borne more welcome 'news.'

It would be wise in us to call ourselves to. account at particular periods of the year, and examine what progress we have made towards heaven, to make humble confessions of what has been done amiss, and to form new resolutions for the time to come. The following prayer is very suitable to such an occasion:

Blessed be God, who has brought me safe to the beginning of this day.

Blessed be God that I am of the number of those who have time and space for repentace given thein.

Preserve in my soul dear God such a constant and clear sense of my obligations to thee, that upon the receipt of every favour, I may immediately turn my eyes to him from whom cometh my salvation. That thy manifold blessings may fix such lasting impressions on my soul, that I may always praise thee joyfully here upon earth, until it shall please thee, of thy unbounded mercy, to call me nearer to the place of thy heavenly habitation, to praise my Lord and deliverer to all eternity.

The greatest happiness O merciful Father, which I can desire, is what I now humbly beg for, that I may gratefully acknowledge thy great love to me, meditate on thy tender mercies, magnify thy great and good providence, and by these mighty favours, be reduced to an obedience becoming my situation
