THE idea of this little book has been suggested to the Editors by the possession of a note book in which a relative, long since dead, was in the habit of noting down the date of any little occurrence of family interest. This book has more than once supplied the date of some event not at the time of its happening deemed to be of importance, but which subsequent unforeseen occurrences had rendered of consequence. It is not perhaps too much to assert that if every family possessed such a note book containing entries extending backwards over a few generations, many a celebrated law-suit would have been nipped in the bud.
